Marijuana found;
resident arrested
An investigation and search of a home in the 3000 block of Stevens Mill Road has led to the arrest of the resident on a drug trafficking charge and the seizure of about 10 pounds of marijuana.
Jasper Carter Medlin, 32, was arrested Monday by the Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with trafficking in marijuana and maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of keeping and selling marijuana.
The marijuana had an estimated street value of $48,000, officers said.
Medlin was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $30,000 secured bond. During his first District Court appearance Tuesday, he waived his right to a court-appointed lawyer.
Firearms stolen
Two residents reported Tuesday the theft of firearms from their homes, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said today.
Two 12-gauge shotguns, a .308 rifle with a scope and a .22 rifle were stolen between Monday and Tuesday from a mobile home in the 400 block of East Evans Road.
Two residents were awakened by an intruder who had broken a window to get inside, the report said. One resident went to a suspect's home but could not find the firearms.
The weapons, valued at $3,400, were owned by a third resident, Timothy Michael Leonard, who was not home.
Two firearms were stolen Tuesday after a door and a window were smashed at a home in the 600 block of Piney Grove Church Road. The resident, Vince Julian Watson, put a $515 value on the weapons and also reported the theft of binoculars, valued at $950, and $20 in change. Damages were set at $300.
Sheriff's deputies are investigating these other reports:
*A DVD player and a window air conditioner were stolen between Monday and Tuesday after a door was damaged at a home in the 100 block of Gene Arthur Lane, deputies said. The property was valued at $400. Damage was put at $200 at John Joyner's home.
*Video-game equipment was stolen Tuesday after a door was forced open at a home in the 100 block of Angela Drive, deputies said. The resident, Jason Edward Hamm, said the equipment was worth $669.
Larceny charged
A 39-year-old Pikeville woman was arrested Tuesday by Goldsboro police and charged with felony larceny by an employee.
Starle Williams of Northeast Railroad Street was accused of scratching off seven $1 and five $5 lottery tickets at The Pantry at 920 N. William St. without paying for them. She was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $1,500 secured bond.
Driver injured
A driver was injured and both vehicles were demolished in a collision Tuesday night at Mimosa Street and South Andrews Avenue, Goldsboro police reported.
Handy Applewhite Jr., 40, of Hickory Road was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Applewhite, who was going west at about 8:20 p.m., was charged with a yield violation. The other driver, Socorro Nicole Miles, 17, of Sydney Drive, Dudley, was going south. The vehicles were valued at $11,000.
