The Wayne County Animal Shelter will hold rabies vaccination clinics Saturday at Grantham Elementary School and the old Pikeville school building.
The Grantham clinic will be held from 8:30 until 10:30 a.m.
The Pikeville clinic will be held from 1-3 p.m.
Chief Control Officer Jerry Pate said dogs and cats older than 4 months should be vaccinated against the disease. Cost is $5 per animal.
After a pet's first vaccination, it should receive a booster shot the next year, then every three years thereafter, Pate said.
Owners of animals that have been vaccinated previously must bring proof of that vaccination for the animal to receive a three-year dose. If documentation is not provided, the animal will receive a one-year dose, Pate said.
The clinic is also an opportunity for anyone to bring an unwanted or stray animal for impoundment.
