What was once an ABC store is now the new office of the Faison Police Department.
The office adjacent to Town Hall has been remodeled to suit law enforcement needs, said Police Chief Danny Albert Brock. After the store closed it was used for storage.
The police department had previously worked out of a front room at Town Hall, sharing space with the mayor and other city officials. But the department needed a separate office to be more effective, Brock said. The conducting of town business and police business in the same office wasn't efficient.
"This is the first organized, separate police department that we've had," Brock said.
Remodeling began in early February, with Brock doing most of the work himself in his off hours.
"The mayor told me 'Dream it like you want it,'" Brock said.
The room that once housed hundreds of bottles of liquor now holds two desks and an evidence room. Brock said with some touching up to take place over the next week or so, the office should be complete.
