The old Piggly Wiggly and Beauty World in Wayne Plaza in the 1800 block of East Ash Street are being torn down to make way for a new Food Lion store. The new store will replace the current Spence Avenue Food Lion. "We'll be putting back what Food Lion calls an 'ultra-modern prototype' store," said Brad Makepeace, who works for general contractor Wimco. The grocery store will occupy 27,000 square feet, Makepeace said. An additional retail store, not yet determined, will join Food Lion in the space.
