Residents robbed by two burglars
Two men on Monday night barged into an apartment in the 200 block of Hereford Drive and stole cash, a jacket and personal papers from the occupants, the Wayne County Sheriff's Department reported.
The occupants told deputies that the intruders, one armed with a rifle, forced the three adults into a bathroom, threw one resident's year-old son into the same room, then stole property valued at $519 and fled toward Woodland Church Road.
Alicia Marie Doster said the suspects stole $20, a jacket, a food stamp card, two birth certificates and other personal papers. A visitor, Elizabeth Craft, reported the theft of $5.
The gunman was described as black, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a black ski mask. Another intruder wore a black coat with fur around the hood.
4 hurt in wrecks
Four people were injured and damages were estimated at $24,400 in six recent traffic accidents in Wayne County, law officers reported.
*A pedestrian, wearing all black, was struck at 6:30 p.m. Monday by a pickup truck at North William and 11th streets, Goldsboro police said. Eddie Chambers, 56, of North William Street was taken by the driver to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released. The driver, L.R. Spidle, 62, of Patetown Road, was charged with a yield violation. The report said Chambers was crossing 11th Street as Spidle was making a left turn to 11th Street.
*Damages were estimated at $5,000 in a two-car accident at 11:39 a.m. Monday at Wayne Memorial Drive and Handley Park Drive, police said. Dorothy G. Herring, 83, of Country Day Road, was charged with a safe-movement violation.
*A driver was injured in wreck at 2:35 p.m. Friday after his pickup truck ran off Forest Knolls Road. Charles George Dietzman, 55, of Patricia Court was released after emergency-room treatment. Damages were put at $200.
*A driver from Mount Olive was injured and damages were estimated at $6,800 in a two-vehicle crash at 8:35 a.m. Friday at N.C. 55 and Dog Pond Road, the Highway Patrol said. Reginald Curtis Wooten, 48, of East Nelson Street, was released after emergency-room treatment. Wooten was charged with a safe-movement violation. The report said Wooten had started a left turn and the car that he was driving had collided with an oncoming tractor-trailer that was driven by Thomas Harold Sutton, 54, of Kelway Drive.
*Damages were estimated at $6,500 in a two-vehicle crash at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. 70 near Uzzell Road, the Highway Patrol said. Riccarda Leon Randall, 20, of Cherry Point, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash.
*A driver was injured and damages were set at $5,900 in a two-car crash at 3:03 p.m. Wednesday on Cuyler Best Road, the Highway Patrol said. Sherla E. Daniels, 48, of N.C. 222 East, Stantonsburg, was released after emergency-room treatment. Natasha Shannell Matthews, 31, of Mint Hill Drive, LaGrange, was charged with driving left of center.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*Thieves damaged a door to enter Providence United Methodist Church at 202 Providence Church Road and damaged a filing cabinet in an attempt to enter a safe. Nothing was reported stolen. Damages were estimated at $500.
*A Massey-Ferguson farm tractor and a loader attachment, a rock rake and pallet forks were stolen between Friday and Monday from U.S. 117 North near Pate Road. The property, owned by Cox-Edwards Co. of Goldsboro, was valued at $31,508.
*A red Honda four-wheeler valued at $2,500 was stolen between Friday and Monday from Dick Smith Equipment Co. at 3741 U.S. 70 West.
Break-ins
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A floor safe was stolen and $3,329 was taken from cash drawers between Monday and Tuesday at the Family Dollar store at 1320 W. Grantham St. The safe was valued at $400. A door and a safe were damaged between Sunday and Monday at another Family Dollar store at 2529 E. Ash St., but nothing was stolen, police said. Damages were set at $225.
*A television and a video cassette recorder were stolen between Dec. 20 and Monday after a window was damaged at a NOVA building at 102 W. Patetown Road. The property was valued at $370. Damage was set at $50.
*A laptop computer, a DVD player, a video-game player and an unknown amount of cash were stolen between Dec. 20 and Monday from an apartment in the 300 block of Benton Street, police said. Carlton James Dudley put a $1,150 value on the property.
*A red pressure washer valued at $2,500 was stolen between Saturday and Monday from a service station at 512 N. William St.
