.Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Phillipian R. Stewart, the son of Linda and Lawyer Stewart of Dudley, and his shipmates concluded Annual Exercis 2005, while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk, deployed to Yokosuka, Japan.
The exercise is a joint training mission between the U.S. Navy and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. Two U.S. submarines, 10 U.S. Navy ships and 49 Japanese ships participated in a series of wartime exercises to observe and improve mission interoperability.
Stewart is a 1994 graduate of Southern Wayne Senior High School and joined the Navy in 1994.

Navy Seaman Recruit James D. Ferrante, the son of Patrica A. Ferrante of Fremont, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
During the eight-week program, he completed a variety of training activities, including classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.
Ferrante is a 2005 graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School.
Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Charily McPhail, the daughter of Jacquelene and John Graham of Goldsboro, and her fellow shipmates on board the USS Chung-Hoon, homeported in Honolulu, Hawaii, recently contributed to rescue efforts involving a South Korean merchant with life threatening injuries while in the South Pacific. McPhail and the crew of Chung-Hoon participated in rescue operations that included a helicopter launch and assist and the ship's search-and-rescue swimmer. Once the patient was stabilized, Chung-Hoon transported him to Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu.
McPhail is a 1996 graduate of Goldsboro High School and joined the Navy in October 1997.
Navy Seaman Jason A. Crain, the son of Mary Dillen of Altoona, Pa. and Carlton Crain of La Grange, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
During the eight-week program, Crain completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.
He is a 2005 graduate of Altoona Area High School of Altoona, Pa.
