Drug charges
A 61-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Thursday by authorities and charged with three drug offenses and other violations after a search of his home in the 500 block of East Mulberry Street.
Willie James Bean was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of keeping and selling cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of lottery tickets. He also was held on an outstanding arrest order for a traffic charge.
Bean was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $15,500 secured bond.
Bean was arrested after an anonymous call to Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers and an investigation by Goldsboro police.
Cocaine with an estimated street value of $150, five firearms with a combined value of $650 and illegal lottery tickets were seized.
Goldsboro Housing Authority police, the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad, C-shift police officers with search dogs and the Wayne County Sheriff's Office assisted in the search and arrest.
Two hurt in wrecks
Two drivers were injured and damages were estimated at $23,600 in four recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, the Highway Patrol reported.
*A driver was charged with a safe-movement violation after backing into a Wayne County sheriff's detective's car at 6:25 p.m. Wednesday at West Grantham Street and the entrance to the Little River Shopping Center, the Highway Patrol said. Columbus Taylor, 50, of Third Street was backing up to assist a disabled vehicle in the left-turn lane, the report said. Taylor's pickup truck was not damaged. But the car driven by Detective Sgt. Michael J. Kabler, 33, of Goldsboro had about $1,000 in damages.
*Both southbound drivers were injured and damages were estimated at $7,000 in a two-vehicle accident at 6 p.m. Monday on Princeton Road near Oakland Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. Herman Thomas Lassiter, 55, of Lassiter Road, Princeton, was treated, admitted and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, and Jonathan Perry Whitesell, 31, of Princeton Road, Princeton, was treated and released. Lassiter was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision.
*Damages were estimated at $7,700 in a two-vehicle crash at 2:51 p.m. Monday at N.C. 111 and Tommy's Road, the Highway Patrol said. Christina Bond, 24, of Beyer Street, was charged with a stoplight violation.
*Damages were set at $7,800 in a three-vehicle wreck at 4:02 p.m. Sunday on U.S. 70, west of N.C. 581, the Highway Patrol said. One eastbound motorist, Olivette A. Barbee, 68, of Kinston, was charged with failure to reduce speed.
Break-ins
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*An estimated $11,690 worth of property was stolen between Nov. 25 and Thursday from a rental mobile home in the 100 block of Colonel Warrick Road, deputies said. The owner, Yoni Javier Castellanos Argueto, reported the theft of a refrigerator, a stove, a dishwasher, a washer, a dryer, eight interior doors, kitchen cabinets, two televisions, four beds and three chairs.
*A jar of quarters, two DVD players and other property were stolen between Monday and Thursday after a door was damaged at a home in the 100 block of Ebenezer Church Road, deputies said. One resident, Scott Dwayne Shore, said the quarters were worth $275. The other resident, John R. Shore, put a $200 value on the other property. Damage was set at $200.
Thefts
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A thief threw a rock through a window at Goldsboro Middle School at 801 N. Lionel St., damaged a pen and pencil dispenser and stole $10 in change, police said. Damages were set at $450.
*A green, four-door 1995 Ford Taurus was stolen between Wednesday night and Thursday from the Quality Inn parking lot at 708 Corporate Drive, police said. The owner, Henry Enrique Alvarez of Stanley, said his car was worth $3,000.
Apartment fire
Clothes left on a baseboard heater ignited Thursday and caused a small fire at an apartment at 1602 Courtyard Circle, the Goldsboro Fire Department reported.
Damage was estimated at $300 to the building and $200 to the contents, including clothes, a curtain and the heater, Fire Lt. Richard Walker said.
The residents had the fire out by the time 16 firefighters answered the 3 p.m. alarm within minutes. No one was injured at Tyhesha Williams' home.
