A Goldsboro teenager charged with swiping drugs from Wayne Memorial Hospital has pleaded guilty in Wayne County District Court to misdemeanor possession of marijuana in another case.
Thomas A. Bradshaw II, 16, of Bradford Place was fined $35. Judge Rose V. Williams sentenced Bradshaw to 10 days in jail, but the term was suspended on condition that he complete 12 months of unsupervised probation.
Bradshaw, who was represented by Goldsboro lawyer Geoff Hulse, appealed the judgment to Superior Court.
Bradshaw had paid the court costs June 30 when he agreed to attend Teen Court for the opportunity to have his record cleared. But when he was charged with eight felony offenses in July, he was removed from the program and returned to the adult court system.
When the new charges were lodged, Sudie Davis, the executive director of Community in Schools, the program that administers Teen Court, said, "We have to send him back to the courts. The rules are that when someone gets a second charge, we send him back."
Bradshaw, whose father is a vice president at the hospital, was charged by the State Bureau of Investigation with four counts each of obtaining prescription painkillers by fraud or forgery and possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver prescription painkillers. He was indicted Nov. 7 by the Wayne County Grand Jury on the charges.
Bradshaw was accused of stealing oxycodone, methodone and hydromorphone on July 7 and July 9. He was working as a junior volunteer at the hospital and allegedly used another employee's password to access a drug dispensing machine and get the painkillers.
The felony charges are pending. He has been free on a $10,000 unsecured bond.
The elder Bradshaw had told the News-Argus that his son had been threatened by someone seeking to obtain the medication illegally. He said his son was told that if he did not get the drugs, he and his family would be harmed.
