MOUNT OLIVE -- A suspect has been arrested in connection with the robbery of Peoples National Bank in Mount Olive, Police Chief Emmett Ballree said today.
Raymond Lemuel Cheadle III, of 921 W. Oak St., Goldsboro, is being held in the Wayne County Jail under $250,00 secured bond.
Cheadle, 18, was arrested Sunday afternoon at Goldsboro High School, where he is a senior. Police said he was armed at the time.
The bank was robbed Thursday about 3 p.m. when an armed suspect entered, displayed a gun and emptied two cash drawers of an undetermined amount of money.
Cheadle was charged with one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon, a felony that carries a minimum sentence of 38-55 months in prison, District Attorney Branson Vickory said.
No customers were in the bank during the robbery and no one was hurt, investigators said.
Mount Olive Police Chief Emmett Ballree said the investigation into the robbery is continuing. Mount Olive Police Lt. Tommy Brown and Det. Sgt. Jimmy Stephens led the investigation, with assistance from Special Agent Doug Rambaud of the FBI.
