Pigs in a pickle

Highway Patrol Trooper Reggie Edwards, left, and Pinewood Assistant Chief Steven Powers work on U.S. 13 near the intersection of Central Heights Road this morning after a hog truck slid into a ditch. The tractor-trailer was headed south toward Goldsboro on U.S. 13, rounded a curve, and braked for traffic that was stopped to turn onto Central Heights Road. The truck driver, Michael Simpson of Roseboro, swerved to the right to avoid hitting the stopped cars and ended up in the ditch. Edwards said the truck clipped one car causing $3,500. The car driven by Jeffery I. Holsten of New Jersey. There was an estimated $9,000 damage to the truck, which was loaded with hogs. The truck is owned by Triple L Industry of Clinton. Simpson was charged with failure to reduce speed. The hogs were to be loaded onto another truck today. Traffic on U.S. 13 was being detoured around the accident.
