WARSAW -- North Carolina Highway Patrol officers are investigating a traffic fatality that occurred over the weekend on Wards Bridge Road near Warsaw.
Lillie Williams Miller, 67, of Kenansville, died Sunday afternoon when the car in which she was riding struck a ditch and overturned.
Trooper Ashley Duff said the car came to rest on its right side, facing east.
Ms. Miller was seated in the front passenger seat.
The driver, Olive Mae Bryant, 65, of Beulaville, was going east on Wards Bridge Road in a 1996 Nissan around 4:30 p.m. Sunday. She pulled onto the shoulder and lost control of the car, which went into a ditch and overturned, the trooper said.
Ms. Bryant and another passenger, 12-year-old Dominique Bryant, were helped out of the car by a passing motorist. They did not have any visible signs of injury, according to the Highway Patrol report.
Charges are pending.
All were wearing seat belts.
