MOC Founder's Day celebration Tuesday

MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive College will celebrate 54 years of Christian higher education at its annual Founders Day event on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Rodgers Chapel. Barbara Woodall Hinton, an MOC alumna and retired elementary educator, will give the Founders Day address.
Ms. Hinton attended Mount Olive College in 1954-1955, moving to Las Vegas to work with the federal government from 1956-1959. She returned to North Carolina and earned her bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Barton College in 1962.
An educator with Wayne County Public Schools for 33 years, she is now the lead teacher with Princeton Church of God Preschool.
The Founders Leadership Award, sponsored by Dr. and Mrs. W. Burkette Raper, will be presented during the Founders Day service. Employees celebrating continued years of service to the College will also be recognized.
Mount Olive College was chartered in 1951 and opened the following year with six students at Cragmont Assembly near Black Mountain. The institution was originally named Mount Allen Junior College. In 1953, it moved to Mount Olive and the name was changed. Today, the college's enrollment at all campuses is 3,857 students.
