4 hurt in wrecks
Four drivers were injured and damages were estimated at $30,000 in five recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A southbound Fremont driver was injured and damages were estimated at $6,500 in a two-car collision at 6:10 p.m. Tuesday on South Wilson Street near Main Street in Fremont, Fremont police said. Detoya Quinte Lewis, 28, of West Mill Street, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. The other driver, Sonya Rice, 53, of Wilson, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. The report said Lewis was slowing to turn into a parking lot and Ms. Rice did not stop in time.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $6,000 in a two-vehicle crash at 7:27 a.m. Tuesday at Big Daddy's and Lancaster roads, the Highway Patrol said. Kayla Rachelle Hamilton, 16, of Decoy Drive, Pikeville, was released after emergency-room treatment. She also was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. The other driver, Thomas Daniel Bunn, 16, of Church of God Road, had stopped for a preceding vehicle that was making a left turn, the report said.
*A stolen car plowed into a small brick wall on Hickory Street near Devereaux Street at 10:20 p.m. Tuesday, and the driver fled, police said. The car had been reported stolen in Lee County. Damage was estimated at $6,000 to the car, registered to Warren Myers of Sanford. The passenger, Joseph Bunch, 20, of Courtyard Circle, was charged with felony possession of a stolen car. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond.
*Damages were estimated at $8,000 in a two-vehicle collision at 2:25 p.m. Tuesday at Royall Avenue and Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro police said. One driver, Mark A. Tolliver, 37, of Fallin Boulevard, was charged with a safe-movement violation. The report said Tolliver had started a left turn and his sport utility vehicle collided with an oncoming, northbound pickup truck. The other motorist was identified as Joseph Daniel Bell, 40, of North Jackson Street.
*Both westbound drivers were injured in a wreck at 11:10 p.m. Saturday at Wayne Memorial Drive and Hare Road, the Highway Patrol said. Christopher Glenn Wright, 37, of Wesley Chapel, Fla., and Brian Alen Cave, 38, of Wayne Memorial Drive, Pikeville, were released after emergency-room treatment. Wright, who was operating a tractor-trailer, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end wreck at a stop sign. Damages were set at $3,500.
Man assaulted
A Goldsboro man was assaulted Tuesday night during a fight with another man in the 400 block of Denmark Street, Goldsboro police reported.
Demoreo Edwards, 26, of South Andrews Avenue was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was listed today in stable condition after treatment for a stomach cut, a spokeswoman said.
The other man, Javarus Wooten, 25, of East Holly Street, suffered a minor cut above his eye during the fight. He refused medical treatment at the scene. Wooten was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon while inflicting serious injury and fighting. He also was held on an outstanding arrest order. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $2,500 secured bond.
Edwards also was charged with fighting, the report said. He was released on his own recognizance.
Two charges
A 22-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Tuesday by Goldsboro police and charged with first-degree burglary and an attempted first-degree sexual offense.
Jeffrey Gorham of Fourth Street was accused of barging into a woman's home at night, awakening her and trying to sexually assault her, Investigator Chad Calloway said. Gorham was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of an $85,000 secured bond on the two felony charges.
Break-ins
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*Clothes, jewelry and a combination radio and compact disc player were stolen Tuesday from a home in the 1100 block of Lanetown Road, sheriff's deputies said. The thief had damaged a door to get inside, the report said. One resident, Evaristo Gonzalez Muniz, reported the theft of $250 worth of clothes. The other resident, Luis Muniz, said his clothes, jewelry and the radio, valued at a combined $3,300, were stolen. Damage was set at $100. Car keys also were taken, their car was entered but nothing was stolen, the report said.
*A DVD player was stolen between Tuesday and today after a car window was smashed in the 4300 block of Emmaus Church Road, deputies said. The owner, Luis Angel Anacizca of Mount Olive, put a $200 value on the DVD player and set damage at $175 to the disabled car.
*A laptop computer was stolen between Tuesday and today from an unlocked car in the 900 block of Rosewood Road, deputies said. The resident, Michelle S. Merritt, said the company computer was valued at $2,000.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A car radio, a compact disc player, a speaker box and an amplifier were stolen Tuesday night after a window was smashed in the Berkeley Mall parking lot, police said. The owner, April Elaine Lane of Goldsboro, estimated the value of the stolen property at $845 and damage at $150.
*A compact disc player was stolen Tuesday after a car window was shattered in the Wayne Community College parking lot, police said. The owner, Lorene Strong of Goldsboro, put a $100 value on the player and estimate damage at $200.
Drug charges
A 41-year-old man was arrested Tuesday night by Goldsboro police and charged with felony and misdemeanor drug offenses on Wayne Memorial Drive.
Jeffrey William Wheeler of U.S. 117 North, Pikeville, was charged with felony possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $3,000 secured bond.
