2 hurt in wrecks
Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $39,225 in five recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Damages were estimated at $5,500 in a two-car collision at 10:48 a.m. Monday at North Herman and East Beech streets, Goldsboro police said. Both drivers said they had the green light. Jesse Ellis Baldwin, 42, of Smithfield was going south, and Norma Dana Hill, 51, of Sumpter Road was traveling east. No charges were filed.
*A passenger was injured and damages were estimated at $7,500 in a three-vehicle wreck at 6:30 p.m. Friday at N.C. 111 and St. John Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. Juana Ortiz, 26, of Mill Run Village, Mount Olive, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. She was riding with Joel Edgardo Antuna Ocasio, 23, of Maysville School Road, Mount Olive. The report said a southbound driver, Fermin Morquecho Rubio, 25, of North Beston Road, LaGrange, was starting a left turn and his car collided with Ocasio's oncoming, northbound auto. The impact of the crash sent Rubio's car into a stopped, westbound pickup truck that was driven by David Louis Grady, 50, of Spring Bank Road. Rubio was charged with a safe-movement violation.
*Damages were set at $8,200 in a three-vehicle crash at 4:20 p.m. Thursday on N.C. 581 near Casey Mill Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Wendy Marie Koles, 21, of Ruby Road, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. The other motorists were identified as Jon Edwin Stone, 49, of Richlands and William Ray Roberts, 36, of Emmaus Church Road, Mount Olive.
*A driver was injured and his car was demolished in a wreck at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 1 on U.S. 117 Alternate near Outlaw Road, the Highway Patrol said. Dandrell D'ante Williams, 19, of Alert Cable Road, Dudley, was released after emergency-room treatment. He was charged with reckless driving, the report said, after the car had run off the right side and struck a ditch and a power pole. The car was valued at $8,000. Other damages were set at $1,500.
*Damage was estimated at $8,525 in a one-car crash at 12:50 p.m. Nov. 1 on Old Grantham Road near Providence Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, William Andrew Hinson, 19, of Mark Herring Road, Seven Springs, was charged with driving left of center and exceeding a safe speed. The report said the westbound car ran off the left side, struck a ditch, came back on the road, ran off the right side and struck a mail box.
Prostitution
charges filed
Five men were arrested Monday by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad and charged with procuring or soliciting for the purpose of prostitution.
Albert Alvin Tann, 50, of Ernest Tann Lane, Faison; James Woodard Wynn, 57, of Hart Circle; Gerald Ward Layden, 72, of Ninth Street; Douglas McArthur Johnson, 64, of Paul Street, and Filegonio Almi Gonzales Diaz, 41, of Talbert Drive were arrested as a result of an undercover investigation into prostitution problems. Each man received a $400 secured bond.
Safe, cash stolen
A small safe with cash and checks was stolen between Saturday and Monday from Furniture Liquidators at 2608 Royall Ave., Goldsboro police reported.
The thief had damaged siding to get inside and steal $1,912.88 in cash and $449.66 in checks. The safe was valued at $30.
Police also are investigating these reports:
*A combination radio and tape player was stolen between Friday and Monday after a car window was damaged at Doug Henry Buick at 709 E. Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, police said. The property was valued at $350. Damage was set at $300.
*A stereo was stolen between Saturday and Monday after a car window was smashed at Chevrolet Cadillac of Goldsboro at 3300 E. Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, police said. The stereo was valued at $300, and damage was set at $150.
*A cell phone was stolen before dawn today after a door was damaged at an apartment in the 100 block of South Berkeley Boulevard, police said. The resident, Cuichang Huang, said the phone was worth $200. Damage was put at $50.
*An undetermined amount of money was stolen from a drink machine at 1318 N. Center St., police said. The amount of damage had not been determined.
Thefts
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*Two heat pumps were stolen between Wednesday and Tuesday from a vacant home in the 1900 block of Antioch Road, sheriff's deputies said. The owner, David Ray Overton of Fremont, put a $10,000 value on the pumps.
*An 18-horsepower Craftsman riding lawn mower with a 42-inch cut was stolen between Friday and Monday from the 2000 block of Rosewood Road, deputies said. The owner and resident, Addie Rufus Evans Jr., said the mower was worth $1,250.
Teen charged
A teenager was arrested Monday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with two felony offenses.
James Thomas Goodman Jr. of Mount Airy Road was charged with breaking and entering and larceny in connection with a residential break-in Sept. 19, Detective Richard Winders said. Goodman's bond was set at $6,000. He was arrested by Sgt. Steve Mozingo.
