Crime of the Week
A break-in at Jackson's Auto Repair Shop at 209 E. Vine St. has been selected by Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers as this week's "Crime of the Week."
About $14,000 worth of equipment was stolen Oct. 20. The stolen property included state vehicle inspection stickers, a computer monitor, a shop vacuum and tools.
Anyone with information on this break-in, the location of the stolen property or any other crime in Wayne County was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous, and they may be eligible for cash rewards of up to $1,000, if their information leads to arrests in felony cases.
7 hurt in wrecks
Seven people were injured and damages were estimated at $32,700 in five recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $6,700 in a four-vehicle collision at 10:41 a.m. Thursday on Royall Avenue near North Spence Avenue, Goldsboro police said. One driver, Davetta Michelle Price, 35, and her passenger, Ronald Price, 35, both of Farm Club Road, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Another driver, Shirley B. Martin, 61, of Rosewood Road, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. The other motorists were identified as Thomas Ray Hinnant, 23, of Southern Drive, Dudley, and Sandra E. Kerr, 67, of Ridgewood Drive.
*Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash at 7:25 a.m. Thursday at West Holly Street and North Alabama Avenue, police said. One driver, Georgette W. Artis, 28, and her passenger, Neysa Wellington, 8, both of DuPont Circle, were released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Artis, who said she was blinded by the sun, was charged with a safe-movement violation and not having an operator's license. The report said her eastbound car collided with a church bus that was driven by George Goodman Uzzell, 56, of Berry Street, Damages were set at $2,500.
*Two people were injured in a one-car wreck at 3:42 p.m. Thursday on N.C. 581 near Casey Mill Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Marian E. Johnson, 72, and her passenger, Willie Johnson Jr., 74, both of Vann Street, were released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Johnson was charged with driving left of center. The report said her car rounded a right-hand turn, went off the left side and struck a ditch. Damage was put at $3,000.
*Damages were estimated at $11,000 in a two-car collision at 7:40 a.m. Thursday at Tommy's and Hare roads, the Highway Patrol said. A southbound driver, Laura Ashley Nye, 19, of South Tiffany Road, was charged with a yield violation at a stop sign. The report said her car had collided with an eastbound auto that was driven by Lorraine F. Jennette, 65, of Forrest Drive.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $9,500 in a two-car crash at 7:28 a.m. Tuesday on Ditchbank Road near Dollard Town Road, the Highway Patrol said. Jeremy John Cohrs, 21, of Cohrs Drive was released after emergency-room treatment. The report said a motorist leaving a driveway, Travis Lee Anderson, 17, of Ditchbank Road, had collided with Cohrs' northbound sport utility vehicle.
Teen charged
A teen-ager from Clinton was arrested before dawn today by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with four felony offenses after an alert resident's call to authorities.
A resident on U.S. 13 South reported seeing someone in his front yard. Sheriff's Deputy Patrick Hux responded, located the person and found drug paraphernalia during a search. As Hux was leaving, another resident flagged him down and said his two vehicles had been broken into.
The resident, Jerry B. Waddell, reported the theft of a flashlight that was recovered from the teen. Hux said the teen also had a pocketful of change, cologne, two gold bracelets and a gold ring and was wearing a woman's coat.
Hux then charged Eric Lee Bolton, 17, with two felony counts each of breaking and entering of a vehicle and larceny and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond.
Firearms stolen
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*Two carbines, a rifle, a black-powder gun, a revolver, a fishing tackle bag and its contents, two drills and a chain saw were stolen Thursday from a home in the 100 block of Bennett Farm Lane, sheriff's deputies said. The thief had damaged two doors to get inside, the report said. The resident, Hillard Denny Barker, estimated the value of the stolen property at $2,425 and damages at $1,600.
*A shotgun and a compact disc player were stolen Thursday after a door was damaged at a home in the 1100 block of Dollard Town Road, deputies said. The resident, L.J. Brown, estimated the value of the property at $350 and damage at $200.
Thefts
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*About $630 worth of tools was stolen between Wednesday and Thursday after a car window was damaged in the 600 block of North Madison Avenue, police said. The driver, Ray A. Carson of Goldsboro, reported the theft of three drills, a saw and other tools. Damage was set at $150 to the van, owned by Lane Painting and Home Improvement of Goldsboro.
*A radio, an amplifier, a cigarette lighter and $200 were stolen Thursday from a sport utility vehicle at Pizza Inn at 707 E. Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, police said. The owner, D.L. Perkins of Pikeville, put a $352 value on the property, in addition to the cash. The thief had forced open a broken window to get inside.
Missing
A 15-year-old girl was reported missing today by relatives to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. Ashly Raya Skinner of 128 Mark Edwards Road, LaGrange, was described as black, 5-feet-5 and 140 pounds with shoulder-length brown hair and black eyes. She was seen last at 12:30 a.m. No clothing description was available. Anyone with information on her location was asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 731-1481.
