Pikeville to resurface several streets

Pikeville town commissioners agreed to begin resurfacing streets affected by sewer line upgrades. The board held an emergency meeting Wednesday with town engineer Tyndall Lewis of McDavid Associates.
Previously, the board planned to patch only the segments directly affected by new pipe installations. It was decided Wednesday to re-surface all of the Collingwood neighborhood. Musgrave Street will be paved, as well as Mill Street from Ham to Main.
Several small segments in Collingwood and the stretch of Mill Street from Main to Vail were already scheduled for re-surfacing.
APAC of Goldsboro will begin the paving process shortly, said town administrator Lonnie Graves.
"They're going to be here, so we thought we'd go ahead and make the most of our time," Graves said. "We know we have work to do, so why not do it while they're here?"
Graves said notices will be given to business owners and residents on the affected streets. Traffic delays and detours due to paving "should be minimal," Graves said.
Commissioners voted unanimously to use Powell Bill funds to pave the streets, leaving contingency funds for the sewer project. The total cost of the paving project is about $100,000.
