Stolen car found;
man charged
A car that was reported stolen in Kentucky was found before dawn today. A man was arrested and charged with possession of the auto.
William "Billy" Joe Dickerson, 36, of Tarheel Pines Drive was charged with felony possession of a stolen car. He also was held on an outstanding arrest order for failing to comply with and appear on probation violations. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $30,000 secured bond.
The 1999 Toyota Camry, valued at $10,000, had been reported stolen from Alfred Reid of Earlington, Ky.
Deputies Darren Craig and Chuck Schaeffer had been notified that Dickerson was at his home and was wanted by the state Department of Corrections for probation violations. When they arrived at the home, Dickerson's wife, Meredith Joellen Dickerson, 31, said her husband had not been there in two months.
Ten minutes later, the deputies saw the husband through a window and arrested him without incident. The wife was charged with obstruction of officers. She was released on a $1,000 unsecured bond.
After investigating the registration of the car, Schaeffer then returned to the home, seized it and put it in storage for the owner.
Goldsboro police later charged Dickerson with an outstanding arrest order for failure to answer a charge of driving while his license was revoked. His secured bond was set at $500.
Teens charged
in house break-in
An alert citizen's call on Monday enabled Goldsboro police to respond quickly to a residential break-in on North John Street and to arrest and charge two teen-agers for the crime.
Quentin Kenon, 17, of Courtyard Circle and Jesse Dixon, 17, of South Running Deer Circle, Dudley, were charged with breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods. Kenon was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $4,000 secured bond. Dixon's secured bond was set at $2,500.
Most of the stolen property was recovered at another home about a block away, Investigator G.N. Lynch said. Investigator Paul VanWijk, Maj. Jay Memmelaar and C-shift officers assisted in the investigation.
Embezzlement
The theft of a $1.23 energy drink on Monday got a 21-year-old Goldsboro man in trouble with his boss and the police.
Elawrence Acuff Jr. of South John Street was accused of inflicting about $29 worth of damages to a case of drinks and then stealing the drink, police said. Chris Wise, an official at Southco Distributing Co., said Acuff's actions were recorded on videotape, the police report said.
Acuff was charged with felony embezzlement. He was released from custody on a $4,000 unsecured bond.
18th drug arrest
An 18th person was arrested Monday by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad as a result of a year-long undercover drug operation. Two people being sought remain at large.
Barry Devon Richardson, 25, of Kenly was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and sale and delivery of cocaine. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 secured bond.
Fugitive caught
A 31-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Monday night by Goldsboro police on three fugitive warrants from Collin County, Texas.
Jeffrey Eric Greaux of Devereaux Street was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 secured bond. His first court appearance was scheduled for today.
5 hurt in wrecks
Five people were injured and damages were estimated at $23,350 in five recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A Goldsboro driver was injured in a two-vehicle collision at 5:32 a.m. today at East Ash Street and Glenwood Trail, Goldsboro police said. Bobby Harrell Hinnant, 60, of Eastern Place was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was being treated at mid-morning, a spokesman said. The other driver, Joseph Marshall Stroud, 66, of Sheridan Road, was charged with a safe-movement violation. The report said the southbound truck that Stroud was driving had collided with Hinnant's westbound pickup truck. Damages were put at $1,900.
*A sport utility vehicle struck a deer at 7:45 a.m. Friday on New Hope Road near May Road and received about $5,000 in damages, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Jonathan Lee Smith, 26, of Kinston, was not charged or hurt.
*Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $9,000 in a three-car collision at 8:40 p.m. Thursday at U.S. 70 and Luby Smith Road, the Highway Patrol said. An eastbound driver, Tammy Irene Johnson, 24, and her passengers, Cyerra Shiane Johnson, 3, and Allen Dean Johnson, 3, all of Hopewell Road, Mount Olive, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. A northbound driver, Virginia K. Ormond, 75, of Mercer Street, Princeton, was charged with yield violation at a stop sign. An eastbound driver following Ms. Johnson -- Larry Gene Frederick, 67, of Raleigh -- was charged with failure to reduce speed. The report said Mrs. Ormond had stopped in the median but the rear of her car extended into the eastbound lane, and Ms. Johnson slowed down to avoid Mrs. Ormond's car but Frederick could not slow down in time.
*Two people were injured in a two-car crash at 5:31 p.m. Oct. 25 on U.S. 70 near Fussell Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Pamela LaTrall Stevenson, 20, of East James Street, LaGrange, and her passenger, Charles Parks Jr., 24, of Sutton Road, LaGrange, were released after emergency-room treatment. The other motorist, Maria Luisa Pacheco, 44, of School House Branch Road, Mount Olive, was charged with a yield violation. The report said Ms. Pacheco was leaving a parking lot and the car that she was driving collided with the westbound auto that Ms. Stevenson was operating. Damages were set at $950.
*Damages were estimated at $6,500 in a two-car crash at 9:41 p.m. Oct. 23 at U.S. 13 and Durham Lake Road, the Highway Patrol said. A westbound driver, April Christine Deaver, 30, of Pecan Road, Dudley, was charged with a stop-sign violation and driving while impaired. The report said Ms. Deaver's car collided with a southbound auto that was driven by Carmelino Ortis Diaz, 21, of Mills Road.
School bus wreck
A car collided with a Wayne County school bus last week at Lancaster Road and N.C. 111, the Highway Patrol said in a report filed Monday. Neither driver, nor the 34 student bus passengers were injured.
The driver of the car, Toni Leigh Teachy, 17, of Saulston Road, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end wreck that happened at 3:10 p.m. Oct. 25. The bus driver was identified as Barbara B. Boswell, 35, of Mill Dam Road. Damage was estimated at $500 to the school bus and $1,500 to the car.
Larceny charge
A 25-year-old Goldsboro woman was arrested Monday by Goldsboro police and charged with felony larceny by an employee.
Kimberly Harrison of Airline Place was accused of stealing money from her former place of employment, the Waffle House at 502 N. Berkeley Blvd., Investigator Dale Foster said. She was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $1,500 secured bond.
Thefts
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*Two shotguns, a pistol, jewelry, a portable radio, video-game equipment, 30 movie DVDs and $270 were stolen Monday from a home in the 2700 block of Antioch Road, sheriff's deputies said. The thief had damaged a door to get inside. The resident, Durwood Joseph Smith, estimated the value of the stolen property at $4,314 and damage at $400.
*A combination radio and cassette player was stolen between Saturday and Monday after a vehicle window was smashed at Wheels of Goldsboro at 2046 U.S. 117 South, deputies said. The stolen property was valued at $75. Damage was set at $125.
*About $20 was stolen between Sunday and Monday after a drink machine was damaged at the Food Lion supermarket in Pikeville, deputies said. Damage was set at $125.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A handgun, a digital camera, four pairs of boots, a sweatshirt and video-game equipment were stolen Monday after a window was shattered at a home in the 1200 block of North John Street, police said. The resident, Pedro Jimenez, estimated the value of the stolen property at $900 and damage at $10.
*A compact disc player, an amplifier and a speaker were stolen Monday from a car in the 1400 block of Cuyler Best Road, police said. The thief had inflicted about $150 in damages. The value of the property, owned by the resident, Steven Marcks, was not immediately known.
