Storm watch upgraded to warning

An inland tropical storm warning was issued for Wayne and Sampson counties this afternoon by the National Weather Service in Raleigh.
The warning, previously a watch, means that winds of 39 to 73 mph are expected due to a land-falling hurricane or tropical storm.
Winds of this speed can cause sporadic power outages, fallen trees and minor property damage along with dangerous driving conditions for high profile vehicles.
The warning is effective from 6 a.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Thursday.
The weather service said Wayne may experience sustained winds around 40 mph with gusts up to 50 mph as Tropical Storm Ophelia passes to the east.
Rain squalls containing the strongest winds will begin to affect the area by daybreak Wednesday.
