ROCKY MOUNT -- Homecoming at North Carolina Wesleyan College this year will include more activities than ever before. Nearly 1,000 alumni and their families are expected to attend events between Friday, Sept. 30, and Sunday, Oct. 2.
Weekend activities will get under way with Friday's golf tournament at Cotton Valley Golf Club in Tarboro, followed by a pig pickin'. In Rocky Mount, the women's soccer team will play Greensboro College at 4 p.m. on Scalf Field, and alumni will gather at the Dunn Center at 5:30 p.m. for a reception and entertainment.
That evening, alumni and students can enjoy a bonfire and pep rally for Saturday's football game.
New for homecoming weekend will be a 5Krun/walk at 8 a.m. Saturday to benefit the Christopher Cash Memorial Scholarship Fund. Cash was a 1993 graduate killed in Iraq in 2004 while serving with the N.C. National Guard. The run/walk is open to the public, measured and certified, and will be run on asphalt on the Wesleyan campus and through Ford's Colony. The entry fee is $25 for adults, $10 for students, with all proceeds going toward the scholarship fund. Advance registration is encouraged at www.active.com. On-site registration begins at 7 a.m. at Everett Gymnasium before the event.
