Juvenile charged
in robbery attempt
A 15-year-old boy was arrested Wednesday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with the attempted armed robbery of a convenience store at Genoa and Pecan roads two days earlier.
As a clerk opened the Genoa Mart at about 5:30 a.m. Monday, a black man with a shotgun followed her inside and demanded she open the office safe. As she looked in the office, she said she saw another black man. The clerk said she could not open the safe, and the suspects fled.
As the clerk was leaving the store Wednesday, she saw one suspect walking on Genoa Road and called 911. Sheriff's patrol and civil division deputies converged on the area, found the teen and arrested him. The weapon used in the attempted holdup was recovered, Detective Sgt. Dean Roscoe said.
The teen who was not identified because of his age, was charged in a juvenile petition and placed in a juvenile detention center.
Roscoe said the investigation is continuing.
Fugitive caught
A 16-year-old fugitive wanted for a probation violation and other charges was tracked Wednesday and captured by Wayne County sheriff's deputies in a wooded area between Booker and Ham streets in Pikeville.
Joey Jamal Rowe of Antioch Road, Pikeville, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, larceny, communicating threats and three counts of resisting arrest. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $59,000 secured bond.
Deputies were notified Tuesday that Rowe was near the Pikeville Post Office on Big Daddy's Road. He fled into woods. The sheriff's warrant squad and Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team responded.
Sgt. Jeff Williams and his search dog, Remco, and Deputy Randy Thompson and his dog, Linda, tracked Rowe, then found him and arrested him without further incident.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*A brick was thrown through a car window between Tuesday and Wednesday in the 1300 block of Peachtree Street and stole a purse, a wallet, about $30 and personal papers, Goldsboro police said. The resident and owner, Brittany Leigh Anderson, estimated the value of the stolen property at $65 and damage at $150. Another resident, Donna Moerie, also reported the theft of $3 from her unlocked car.
*A laptop computer, about $60 and a work badge were stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday from a van in the 100 block of Pleasant Pines Drive, deputies said. The owner and resident, Patrick Shondell Wiilliams, said his property was worth $1,262.
*A DVD player and about $20 in change were stolen between Aug. 2 and Monday after a door was forced open at a home in the 200 block of Hideaway Circle, deputies said. The resident, Grace M. Batiste, put a $40 value on the player. Damage was set at $100.
Collision
A pickup truck skidded out of control Tuesday on a wet road, ran off the right side and struck an electric wire fence and a tree, the Highway Patrol said.
The driver, Michael John Singenheimer, 21, of Timberwood Drive, was going west on Indian Springs Road near Emmaus Church Road at 2:10 p.m. He was neither injured nor charged. Damage was estimated at $5,000 to his truck.
Missing
A 40-year-old woman was reported missing Wednesday to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. Carol Dezet Campbell of 103 Wesley Drive, Princeton, was described as white, 5 feet 4 inches tall and 130 pounds, with reddish-brown, shoulder-length hair and brown eyes.
She was seen last at 4:15 a.m. Wednesday and might be driving a teal-green Chevrolet Beretta. Anyone with information on her location was asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 731-1481.
