11 injured in
10 accidents
Eleven people were injured and damages were estimated at $64,800 in 10 recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Damages were estimated at $5,000 in a two-vehicle collision at 1:11 p.m. Monday at Wayne Memorial Drive and a ramp from Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, the U.S. 70 bypass, Goldsboro police said. One driver, Bryan Cadette Page, 58, of 12th Street, was charged with a safe-movement violation after the rear-end collision. The other driver was Ashley Jean Keesee, 21, of C.R. Lewis Dairy Road.
*A passenger was injured and a pickup truck was demolished in a wreck at 2:45 a.m. Sunday on U.S. 70 near Beston Road, the Highway Patrol said. Hermengildo Hernandez Ortega, 32, of Kinston was listed today in stable condition at Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. His driver, Arnulfo Hernandez Ortega, 27, of Kinston, said he fell asleep and the truck ran off the right side and overturned. He was charged with reckless driving. The truck was valued at $9,000.
*Four people were injured and damages were estimated at $13,000 in a two-vehicle collision at 10:45 p.m. Saturday at Tommy's and Hare roads, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Christy Lee Berry, 16, of Buck Swamp Road, and her passenger, Jared Austin Smith, 17, of Coley Road, and the other driver, Paul Edward Bennett, 71, and a passengers, Erica Latrice Bennett, 29, both of Greenville, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. Ms. Berry, who was going north, was charged with a yield violation at a stop sign. Bennett was headed east.
*Damages were estimated at $5,000 in a two-vehicle wreck at 2:23 p.m. Saturday at Old Mount Olive and Genoa roads, the Highway Patrol said. A northbound driver, Sherry A. Goff, 32, of Boykin Drive, Dudley, was charged with a safe-movement violation. The report said she was starting a left turn and the pickup truck that she was driving collided with a southbound car. The other driver was listed as Lisa Ann Gagne, 33, of Old Mount Olive Road, Dudley.
*Three people were injured and damages were set at $6,000 in a two-car collision at 5:37 p.m. Saturday at Grantham School Road and Red Tip Lane, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Fabian Leon Martin, 25, and his passengers, Kiyarah Martin, 3, and Chantique King, 7, all of Mills Loop Road, Mount Olive, were released after emergency-room treatment. Martin, who was going north, was charged with exceeding the posted speed limit. The other driver, Daniel Diaz Velasquez, 24, of Potts Road, Dudley, was leaving Red Tip Lane. He was charged with driving while impaired and a yield violation.
*Damages were put at $5,000 in a two-vehicle wreck at 7 p.m. Thursday on Dollard Town Road near Lake Wackena Road, the Highway Patrol said. A westbound motorist, Ray Junius Williams, 76, of Dollard Town Road, was charged with a yield violation. The report said Williams was making a U-turn and his car collided with an eastbound pickup. The other driver was Phillip Michael Lee, 17, of Spring Bank Road.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $6,500 in a two-vehicle collision at 12:05 a.m. Thursday on N.C. 111 near N.C. 55, the Highway Patrol said. Awner Mejia, 22, of Cabin Creek Drive, Seven Springs, was released after emergency-room treatment. He was charged with suspicion of driving while impaired and driving left of center. Mejia's sport utility vehicle sideswiped an oncoming, northbound tractor-trailer truck, driven by Eleazar Lozano Carrillo, 41, of Deer Meadow Drive.
*Two people were injured in a one-vehicle wreck at 12:13 p.m. Wednesday on New Hope Road near Hare Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Renita Lashanda Williams, 28, and her passenger, Demias Williams-Turnage, 10 months, both of North Jefferson Avenue, were released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Williams was charged with exceeding a safe speed. The report said her sport utility vehicle ran off the right side, she overcorrected the steering, and the car crossed the center line out of control, then ran off the right side again, struck a tree and overturned. Damage was put at $4,500.
*Damages were estimated at $5,800 in a two-vehicle crash at 3:45 p.m. July 12 on Airport Road near Aviation Road, the Highway Patrol said. An eastbound driver, Clinton Westley Mitchell, 26, of Buckhorn Road, was charged with a safe-movement violation. The report said Mitchell had started a left turn to a driveway and collided with an oncoming sport utility vehicle driven by Jessie Dawn Wilson, 24, of Comet Drive.
*A car was destroyed in a hit-and-run wreck at 6 a.m. July 11 on Ballance Road near Vance Street in Fremont, the Highway Patrol said. The car ran off the right side, struck a ditch and stopped in a corn field, the report said. The car was registered to Michael Joseph Smyth of West Carolina Street, Fremont. The car was valued at $5,000.
Break-ins
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*About $1,184 worth of tools was stolen between July 9 and Monday from a work truck, sheriff's deputies said. The owner, David Ernest Woodard of Princeton, reported the theft of a jigsaw, a rotary hammer, a grinder, a saw, a battery charger, a nail gun and a sander. He said he did not know where the truck was when the theft occurred.
*Appliances and a Honda dirt bike, valued at $2,205, were stolen between July 9 and Monday from a home in the 3900 block of Central Heights Road, deputies said. The thief also damaged a door to get inside. The owner, Lionel Ginn, said a gas heater, a refrigerator, a washer, a dryer, a stove, a hot water heater and a kerosene heater were taken. Damage was put at $125.
*A DVD movie was stolen Monday after a window was smashed in a home in the 2700 block of U.S. 13 South, deputies said. The resident, Timothy Wayne Wagner, said the movie was worth $20. Damage was set at $50.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A one-carat diamond ring and a cell phone were stolen between Sunday and Monday from an apartment in the 300 block of South Harding Drive, police said. The resident, F.C. Scott, put a $6,200 value on the property.
*Three swimming pools, two on Fieldcrest Place and the other on Tonya Drive, were punctured between Sunday and Monday, police said. Damages were set at $485.
*Drink machines were tipped over between Sunday and Monday at Precision Tune and Valveline Oil Change on North Spence Avenue, police said. Damages were estimated at more than $100.
*Two DVD players and a video-game controller were stolen between Wednesday and Monday after two windows were smashed at a home in the 1100 block of Atlantic Avenue, police said. A television and DVD player combination also was damaged. The resident, Amber Burwell, estimated the stolen property's value at $580 and damage at $249.
Drug charges
A 39-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Monday by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad and charged with two felony drug offenses in his home.
Michael Devoy Johnson of North James Street was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of keeping cocaine. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $6,000 secured bond. Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers assisted in the investigation.
Missing
A 15-year-old Goldsboro girl was reported missing Monday by relatives to Goldsboro police. Tanesha Shunette Uzzell of 300-D Beal St. was described as black, 5-feet-2 and 120 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a medium complexion. When she was seen last at 1 p.m. Sunday, she was wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and black tennis shoes. Anyone with information on her location was asked to call police at 705=6572.
