GOP resolution

opposes tax increase

The Wayne County Republican Party has adopted a resolution opposing the recent tax increase levied by the county Board of Commissioners.

Commissioners raised the tax rate by 7.5 cents last month. The rate is now 72.5 cents for every $100 worth of property.

The county has received enough additional revenue in recent years through revaluation of property and natural business growth and resulting taxation, said members of the party's executive committee, which approved the resolution last week.

The resolution called upon county residents who believe in limited government to run for local offices.
