Man wounded
in drive-by attack
A 20-year-old Goldsboro man was shot in the head before dawn today in a drive-by shooting in the 4000 block of U.S. 70 East, according to a Goldsboro police report.
The victim, Aaron Kinsey, of Fussell Street, was rushed by ambulance to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was still undergoing treatment at mid-morning, a spokeswoman said.
Kinsey was a passenger with Qushawn Broadhurst, 19, of Goldsboro at about 12:05 a.m., police said. Broadhurst said another vehicle pulled alongside his westbound car and someone began shooting. The assailant could not be described.
Police said today that they were releasing no other information on the shooting.
Robbery, assault
A 20-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Thursday by Goldsboro police and charged with attempted armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
Tishan Geigher of Courtyard Circle was accused of trying to rob and then assaulting Antonio Jones, 19, of Wilson before dawn Sunday, police Investigator M.K. Horstmann.
Young
Two men had barged into an apartment in the 400 block of Courtyard Circle, demanded money, fired shots and pistol-whipped Jones, a police report said. Jones was treated in the Wayne Memorial Hospital emergency room and released, officials said.
Geigher already was in the Wayne County Jail on unrelated charges. His secured bond on these two new felony charges was set at $100,000.
A second man, Lindsay William Young, 17, also was wanted by police on the same charges in connection with the same incident, police said. Young was described as being black, 6-feet and 140 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
5 hurt in wrecks
Five people were injured and damages were estimated at $42,700 in seven recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Three people were injured in a two-car collision at 1:35 p.m. Thursday at West Ash Street and an exit ramp to South Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, the U.S. 117 bypass, Goldsboro police said. One driver, Michael D. Jackson, 18, of Simmons Street, and his passengers, Willie Dennis, 19, of Rockefeller Court and Jamal Williams, 18, of Birddog Lane, Dudley, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Jackson was charged with a yield violation and no operator's license. The report said Jackson was making a left turn and the car collided with an oncoming, eastbound auto. Damages were set at $1,500.
*Damages were put at $5,000 in a two-truck crash at 11:08 a.m. Thursday on North Berkeley Boulevard near Central Heights Road, Goldsboro police. One driver, Jeffrey Jamieson, 19, of Chanute Road, was charged with a safe-movement violation. The report said Jamieson had left Scrubz Car Wash and his pickup collided with a northbound pickup, driven by Aaron James Nickell, 19, of Adler Lane.
*Damages were estimated at $5,000 in a two-vehicle collision at 9 a.m. Wednesday at N.C. 55 and Pineview Cemetery Road, the Highway Patrol said. A southbound driver, Janice S. Brock, 61, of Summerlins Crossroads Road, Mount Olive, was charged with a stop-sign violation. The other driver, Ben Kenneth Cashwell, 37, of Coker Store Road, Mount Olive, was going west on N.C. 55.
*Damages were set at $10,300 in a three-vehicle crash at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at U.S. 117 South and Old Grantham Road, the Highway Patrol said. A southbound driver, Anthony Lamont Harvey, 25, of Roanoke Rapids, was charged with a stoplight violation. The tractor-trailer truck that Harvey was driving, the report said, collided with two eastbound vehicles leaving Old Grantham Road.
*A Goldsboro driver was injured and her car was destroyed in a wreck at 4:50 a.m. Sunday on South Beston Road near Piney Grove Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. Crystal Jane Grady, 23, of Green Drive left the hospital against medical advice, a spokeswoman said. Ms. Grady was charged with reckless driving. The report said the car rounded a curve, ran off the right side, then careened off the left side, struck a ditch and overturned, hitting a light pole. The car was valued at $7,400. Damage was set at $500 to the light pole.
*A car was demolished in a wreck at 5:15 p.m. Saturday on Claridge Nursery Road near U.S. 70, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Jonathan Weldon Ziegler, 17, of Mossburg Drive, was charged with following too closely. The report said he had swerved to the left to avoid a car turning into a driveway and Ziegler's car ran off the left side and overturned. The car was valued at $7,500.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $5,500 in a two-vehicle collision at 4:05 p.m. June 17 at Airport and Lancaster roads, the Highway Patrol said. Jessica Rene Lee, 19, of Norwayne School Road, Fremont, was released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Lee, who was going north, was charged with a yield violation at a stop sign.
Credit card theft
Goldsboro police cleared the theft of a credit card Thursday with the arrest of a 37-year-old Goldsboro woman.
Tracy Michelle Whitfield of Seventh Street was charged with financial transaction card theft and financial transaction card fraud. She was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond.
Ms. Whitfield was accused of stealing a credit card from Dewey Powell Jr. and making unauthorized purchases with it, Investigators Mike Moore and Chad Calloway said.
Jewelry stolen
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*An estimated $2,219 worth of jewelry and an unknown amount of cash were stolen between Thursday and dawn today from a display case at Rent America at 221 N. Berkeley Blvd., Goldsboro police said. The thief had smashed a door glass to get inside. The jewelry included numerous herringbone chains.
*A silver Breitting watch was stolen between Wednesday and Thursday from a home in the 500 block of Morgan Trace Lane, sheriff's deputies said. The resident, Craig Robert Lucey, put a $2,000 value on the watch.
Missing
A 24-year-old man was reported missing Thursday to Goldsboro police. Sammy Ray Braswell of 1685 Old Mount Olive Road, Dudley, was described as black, 5-feet-8 and 150 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a dark complexion.
When Braswell was seen last at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, he was wearing a red No. 80 Jerry Rice jersey, black pants and flip-flops. Anyone with information on his location was asked to call police at 705-6572.
