The last-place Cincinnati Reds fired manager Dave Miley on Tuesday and promoted bench coach Jerry Narron of Goldsboro to take over on an interim basis for the rest of the season.
Pitching coach Don Gullett also was fired. Vern Ruhle will handle the job for the remainder of the season.
Narron was bench coach at Boston in 2003 before taking the same job with Cincinnati at the start of the 2004 season. He was as manager of the Texas Rangers in 2002-02.
