Seven Springs budget passes budget with no increases

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Town residents will not pay more in taxes this year, the Seven Springs board decided Wednesday.
The town board adopted the 2005-06 budget without discussion after a public hearing that closed almost as soon as it opened.No residents attended.
The $49,400 budget was on display for a month at Town Hall. The plan showed a $5,400 increase over last year's numbers.
Administrative costs of $41,500 were the largest line item. Of that amount, $10,000 is for the church to cover the annual loan payment and renovation costs to turn the structure into a town hall. Town officials are waiting for a contractor to start working on the building any time.
The proposed budget calls for using $8,500 from the fund balance next year, but the town hasn't used any of the $5,000 set aside from the fund balance to use this year.
In other business, the board voted to have $475 worth of repairs done on the riding lawnmower and to buy a Weedeater. Mayor Emma Ward had been using her own equipment for the yard work.
Town Commissioner Danny Carter offered to buy a push lawnmower and donate it to the town.
The mayor said some people have asked to reserve tables in the park for activities such as picnics and family reunions. By consensus, the board authorized Town Clerk Deanna Grady to reserve up to six of the eight picnic tables in the park for people requesting them.
Mayor Ward said she's surprised to see how many people are using the park. She said she sees people in the park just about every day.
