Man, car shot
A 19-year-old Goldsboro man was wounded in the right leg before dawn today in an apartment in the 200 block of Sheridan Forest Road, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report.
Vanradius Vonyell Fields of Carolina Street was rushed to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he being treated at mid-morning, a spokeswoman said. Fields said he was shot about a month ago in the other leg.
A car that was leaving a party also was riddled with about 15 bullet holes after the driver had stopped for a traffic light at N.C. 111 and Forest Knolls Road, another report said.
Neither Fields, nor the driver, Marco Devon Faison, 17, of Goldsboro, could provide information about the assailants, deputies said.
Damage was estimated at $3,250 to the car, registered to Michael Neal of Mimosa Park Drive.
Mobile home fire
An older mobile home at 298 King Road and the contents were destroyed before dawn Wednesday in what officials have called a suspicious fire.
A neighbor heard a loud boom, looked outside and saw the home engulfed in flames at about 8 p.m. Tuesday, a Wayne County sheriff's deputy reported. The neighbor, David Denning, awakened the resident, Charles Tadlock, and called authorities.
Jordans Chapel and Grantham volunteer firefighters arrived, put out the fire and called it suspicious, because electricity had been cut off at the power box, the report said.
The mobile home was valued at $5,000, and contents were valued at $2,000, the report said.
House fire
An abandoned house at 408 Wilmington Ave. was damaged Wednesday in a fire that has been called suspicious by Goldsboro authorities.
City employees were doing tree work nearby, saw smoke on Wilmington Avenue and called 911, Fire Lt. Frank Sasser said. The fire had started in pine straw in a corner of the kitchen, he said. Sasser notified police and the city fire inspector to investigate it.
Twelve firefighters answered the 11:33 a.m. call with three engines, a ladder and a command car. They needed about 30 minutes to put out the fire, investigate it and finish salvage work.
Forest Miles was listed as the owner of the small building that was valued at $10,000, Sasser said. Damage was estimated at $100.
More charges
Two Goldsboro teenagers, who were arrested and charged with an armed robbery, now face additional felony charges.
Shawnquel C. Futrell, 17, of Ball Street was charged with armed robbery and second-degree kidnapping. His additional secured bond was set at $70,000 bond.
Marcus Demetrius Benton, 19, of Courtyard Circle was charged with armed robbery. His additional secured bond was set at $60,000.
Four hurt in crash
Four people were injured and both vehicles were demolished in an accident at 12:54 p.m. Tuesday at Parkstown and Beston roads, the Highway Patrol said.
Felicia Danielle Scott, 17, of Oakdale Drive, LaGrange, and her passengers, Walter Bailey, 15, and Shawn Hicks, 14, both of Guy Smith Road, LaGrange, and the other driver, Lucy G. Dudley, 67, of North Virginia Street, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said.
Ms. Scott was charged with a yield violation at a stop sign. The vehicles were valued at $19,000.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A combination radio and compact disc player and a phone charger were stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday after a door was damaged at a home in the 400 block of West Grantham Street. The property was valued at $90. Damage was set at $50 at the M.C. Sauls home. A television, valued at $300, also was stolen but was recovered outside.
*Video-game equipment and a bank bag were stolen Wednesday from an apartment in the 900 block of Hugh Street. The resident, P. Summerville, said the property was worth $1,240. No sign of forced entry was reported.
Missing
A 15-year-old Goldsboro girl was reported missing Wednesday by relatives to Goldsboro police. Kevon Matthew Padgett of 706 S. Best St. was described as black, 5-feet-8 and 150 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a medium complexion. When he was seen last, he was wearing a white T-shirt, blue-jean shorts and white sneakers. Anyone with information on his location was asked to call police at 705-6572.
