Memorial Day closings
City and county offices will be closed Monday, May 30, for the Memorial Day holiday. This will include the county landfill and its convenience centers.
City garbage pickups that are normally done on Monday will be collected on Wednesday, June 1.
The Goldsboro/Wayne Transportation Authority will be operating on a holiday schedule that day. Bus service will operate from 9:45 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. while the van service will be on its normal schedule. Passengers needing van service must call by 2:30 p.m. Friday to schedule rides.
Student work published
The Wayne Collection, a book of student art work and literature, has been completed and published. The book compiles the work of students from all 31 public schools in the county and features visual arts, creative writing, essays, short stories and essays. "This is a great opportunity for these students to express their creativity and seeing it in print encourages them to further develop their language arts talents," said Hope Meyerhoeffer, director of language arts for the school system.
Students submitted more than 140 works for the 18th volume of the annual collection. Visual arts students also competed for the opportunity to display their work on the cover of the book. All students who participated received a copy of the book.
Bloodmobile
The Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold a Bloodmobile Wednesday from 1:30 to 6 p.m. at McDonald's of Mount Olive.
