GREENVILLE -- A scholarship has been established at the East Carolina University School of Nursing in honor of longtime educator Eldean Pierce and her husband, Hal, both residents of the Rosewood area.
Eldean Pierce, who started teaching at the school in 1974 and retired last fall, remains a member of the nursing school family. Hal Pierce received honorary alumnus status for his commitment and efforts on behalf of the school and its alumni program.
Last fall, the Beta Nu Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, the international honor society of nursing, made a gift to the nursing school to establish the Pierce scholarship. Following that gift and others, Beta Nu made another donation to bring the fund to $25,000, the minimum amount required to create an endowed scholarship.
Beta Nu established the criteria for the new scholarship fund. The first scholarship will be awarded for $500 this fall to a student who is a Beta Nu member. The annual scholarship will increase to $1,000.
For more information or to make a donation to the Pierce Beta Nu Scholarship, contact Troy Munn, the director of development for the School of Nursing and School of Allied Health Sciences at ECU, at 252-744-2238.
Contributions can be sent to the Medical Foundation of ECU, 525 Moye Blvd., Greenville, 27834. Checks should be made payable to the Medical Foundation of ECU with "Pierce Beta Nu Scholarship" in the memo.
