2 men robbed
Two Goldsboro men were assaulted Sunday and robbed, Goldsboro police reported.
Kenneth Ray Robinson, 50, told police he was standing in front of his van outside of his home on Courtyard Circle at about 12:55 p.m. Two black men attacked him from behind, stole his handgun from a holster and fled, the report said. Robinson was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. He could not describe the assailants.
Timothy Earl Darden, 25, of Randall Lane said he was walking in the 2000 block of Central Heights Road at about 11:10 a.m., when a car pulled behind him, three black men jumped out and assaulted him with a lamp post. The assailants took $270. Darden said the men were in their 20s but could not describe them further. He was listed today in stable condition, a Wayne Memorial Hospital spokeswoman said.
Meanwhile, someone broke into a home early Saturday in the 600 block of East Elm Street and stole a handgun and a video-game system. A woman who was sleeping heard someone smash a window. Then she went outside, locked the door and called police. She found the broken window and the theft of the property. The resident, Adel Mohemed Hanshali, put a $600 value on his property.
Burglary
A 36-year-old woman was arrested Monday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with felony first-degree burglary and larceny.
Sarah Elizabeth Reid of Juniper Lane, Seven Springs, was accused of barging into a home last week on Joda Drive and stealing $65 from a man's pants pocket, Detective Sgt. Mike Reid said. Ms. Reid was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $40,000 secured bond.
Accidents
Five people were injured and damages were estimated at $37,500 in four recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A pedestrian was struck at 4:23 p.m. Sunday on South Herman Street near Peru Street, Goldsboro police said. Warrick Dion Battle, 35, of Harvey Street, Pikeville, was walking south on the right side of the street and then bent down to adjust groceries that he was carrying. He was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. The driver, Kenneth Eugene Smith, 80, of Poplar Street, was charged with failure to reduce speed and no operator's license. His car sustained about $500 in damages.
*Both drivers were injured and damages were estimated at $17,000 in a collision at 10:52 p.m. Saturday on South John Street near Littleton Place, police said. Tony Maurice Suggs, 35, of Wayne Avenue and Sheila Renee Thomas, 37, of Hazelwood Drive, Dudley, were released after emergency-room treatment. Suggs was charged with driving while impaired. The report said Suggs was going north, crossed the center line and collided with Ms. Thomas's southbound sport utility vehicle, knocking it into the ditch. Suggs's car then overturned.
*Damages were estimated at $6,000 in a two-car crash at 3:11 a.m. Saturday on South Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, the U.S. 117 bypass, near West Elm Street, police said. One driver, Keith Allan Dunbar, 46, of Merlin Lane, LaGrange, was charged with driving while impaired, driving while his license was revoked and hit and run. The car that Dunbar was driving collided with a parked car, registered to Bobby Randy Best of Buddy Boy Lane, Seven Springs. Dunbar walked away from the crash but was arrested a short distance away.
*Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $14,000 in a two-vehicle wreck at 7:55 a.m. Thursday at N.C. 581 and N.C. 222, the Highway Patrol said. A southbound driver, Dorla H. Sowards, 64, of Polly Watson Road, Fremont, and her passenger, Jonathan Sowards, 9, of Tedder Road, Lucama, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. A westbound driver, Sherry Long Edwards, 57, of Perkins Road, was charged with a stop-sign violation.
Vintage cars stolen
A 1964 Chevrolet Impala Super Sport and a 1969 Chevrolet Biscayne were stolen between April 9 and Saturday from a shed in the 1200 block of Old Grantham Road, Wayne County sheriff's deputies reported.
The owner, Harold Dean Gross of Goldsboro, put a $1,000 value on each vehicle. He also reported the theft of $500 worth of tools.
Deputies also are investigating these reports:
*A 9-by-12-foot playhouse was stolen between Wednesday and Saturday from the 3400 block of U.S. 70 West, deputies said. The owner, Lehman G. Smith of Goldsboro, said it was worth $2,000.
*A 1917 hunting knife, three firearms, a firefighter ring, a wedding band and $100 were stolen between Friday and Saturday after a window was broken in a mobile home in the 100 block of Dawson Drive, deputies said. The resident, George Elbert Hawkins, estimated the value of the stolen property at $1,820 and damage at $40.
Body found
The body of a 54-year-old man was found Sunday in his home at 410-C N. George St., according to a Goldsboro police report.
The victim, James Charles Mitchell, died of a gunshot wound, police said. A gun was recovered at the scene.
Drug charges
Two Goldsboro people were arrested Sunday by Goldsboro police and charged with three felony drug offenses.
William Earl Brown, 46, and Jessica Elaine Stilley, 24, both of West Grantham Street, were charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, sale and delivery of cocaine and maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of keeping and selling cocaine. Each was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond.
Missing senior
A 71-year-old man was reported missing Saturday by relatives to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. Bobby Ray Casey of 207 Grantham School Road was described as white, 5-feet-9 and 140 pounds with white hair and green eyes.
When Casey was seen last at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, he was wearing a buttoned shirt, pants, black socks and black shoes. Anyone with information on his location was asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 731-1481.
