Alert citizen helps
deputies in arrest
An alert citizen saw someone load a lawn mower onto a trailer behind a sport utility vehicle Saturday night outside a business on U.S. 70 West, a Wayne County sheriff's deputy reported.
The SUV sped away from Musgrave Auction Co., with the trailer's gate not closed and dragging the pavement, the report said. The citizen followed the SUV west on U.S. 70, then lost sight of it and returned to the business.
Moments later, the citizen saw the SUV coming east on U.S. 70 toward Goldsboro, the report said. He followed it again but lost sight of it and then notified authorities. Goldsboro police found the SUV on U.S. 117 South, and the citizen identified it.
The two people in the vehicle were arrested. Ramond Fennell Manley, 38, of Shirley Drive, Dudley, and Cleveland Devine Hill, 32, of South Church Street, Mount Olive, were charged with breaking and entering and larceny. Manley also was charged with failure to carry a driver's license. Hill also was picked up on an outstanding arrest order. Both men were placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of $25,000 secured bonds.
Man shot
A 19-year-old Goldsboro man was shot before dawn Sunday in the 700 block of Bryant Street, Goldsboro police reported.
Vanradius Vonyell Fields was taken by ambulance to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for two leg wounds and released.
Fields told police that he was walking around the corner of his apartment and saw a gold, four-door car pull up. Then someone in the car shouted, "We got you now," and opened fire. Fields could not describe the assailant.
Man robbed
A pizza delivery man was robbed Saturday night at gunpoint of $65 and a pizza in the 300 block of Beal Street, according to a Goldsboro police report.
David J. Lambert of Pikeville reported to police that two black men committed the robbery. The pizza from It's Always Pizza Time on William Street was valued at $18.
Three hurt
Three people were injured in two weekend traffic collisions in Goldsboro, police reported.
*A passenger was injured and damages were estimated at $5,600 in a two-vehicle collision at 2:54 p.m. Sunday on 11th Street near Norwood Avenue, Goldsboro police said. Tiffany Holland, 29, of Claybrooke Drive was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. The driver, Victor Ray Holland Jr., 32, of Claybrooke Drive, was traveling west when his pickup truck collided with a car backing from a driveway. The other driver, Kenneth Ray Gwaltney, 51, of Daughtry Lane, Pikeville, was charged with a safe-movement violation.
*Two people were injured in a one-vehicle wreck at 2:35 p.m. Saturday on New Hope Road near Darby Road, police said. The driver, Theresa Ann Miller, 41, of Oakland Church Road, Princeton, and her passenger, Robert M. Malpass, 33, of Harrison Phelps Road, LaGrange, were released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Miller was charged with a safe-movement violation after the sport utility vehicle ran off the right side of the road, then careened across the road out of control and ran off the left side, where it struck a mailbox, a small wall, a bush and a tree and overturned. Damages were set at $1,530.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*A coin-operated bubble gum machine was stolen Sunday after a door glass was smashed at Hill's Tire and Auto Service at 1212 S. George St., Goldsboro police said. The machine was valued at $200. Damage was set at $100.
*Two lamps, two end tables and a coffee table were stolen between Friday and Saturday after a door was damaged at a mobile home at Grace Homes at 5423 U.S. 70 East, sheriff's deputies said. The stolen property was valued at $425. Damage was set at $100.
*A compact disc player was stolen Friday after a car window was smashed in the 100 block of Odom Farm Road, deputies said. The owner, Thomas Michael Davis of Goldsboro, put a $300 value on the player and set damage at $150.
Drug charge
A Goldsboro man was arrested Friday by Goldsboro police in his home and charged with a felony drug offense.
Travis Ray Barrow, 35, of Third Street was charged with possession of heroin and two misdemeanors, larceny and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $1,500 secured bond.
Truck found
A pickup truck that had been reported stolen April 6 was found Friday in the Neuse River near the boat landing on Ferry Bridge Road, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report.
The Arr-Mac Water Response Team was searching for another vehicle in the river at 11 a.m. and found the pickup. The truck was owned by Melodie Lee Tripp of Erwin.
