Pickle Festival gets underway today in Mount Olive

The North Carolina Pickle Festival begins in earnest today with children's rides in downtown Mount Olive starting at 5 p.m. and a concert by the Band of Oz at the Mount Olive Airport starting at 8.
The festival continues Saturday with a day full of events, beginning at 8 a.m. The downtown area will be full of activities, including carnival rides, crafts and a variety of vendors, games, art exhibits, pony rides, live entertainment, bicycle stunt team performances, pig and duck races, climbing wall, car show, motorcycle show, book sale and appearances by Miss North Carolina and the Pickle Festival Princess.
At the airport, Saturday's events will include sky diving, a radio controlled airplane demonstration, a fly-in and aircraft judging.
On Thursday, golfers participated in the Pickle Festival Golf Tournament at the Southern Wayne Country Club, Mount Olive merchants held a day-long shopping spree and a fashion show was held.
