SEVEN SPRINGS -- A 20-year-old woman from Albertson was injured Thursday night when an empty tractor-trailer truck rammed her car at N.C. 55 and N.C. 903, the Highway Patrol said.
Ashley Renee Adams was flown by EastCare helicopter to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, troopers said. But a spokeswoman for the hospital could not find a listing for her.
Lenoir and Wayne County emergency workers and Seven Springs and Sandy Bottom volunteer firefighters were dispatched to the wreck. They needed about 30 minutes to free Ms. Adams from the wreckage.
Ms. Adams was traveling east at about 9:40 p.m., when her car was struck by a northbound hog truck operated by Brandon Eric White, 24, of Kenansville for JK Trucking Co. of Kenansville.
White did not stop at the stop sign, according to witnesses. The car ran underneath the trailer, and the big rig stopped about 400 feet from the point of impact. State Trooper G.S. Hemby said charges are pending.
The 2001 Chevrolet that Ms. Adams drove was demolished. It was valued at $12,000. Damage to the tractor-trailer truck was estimated at $9,000.
