Grantham Fly-In
The second annual Fly-In will be held Saturday, April 9 at a private airfield in Grantham.
Signs will direct motorists to the Shane Kilpatrick's airfield at 580 McArthur Pond Road off Grantham School Road. Kilpatrick's is one of three operational landing strips in the community local aviators call "Grantham International."
"As small as Grantham is, it's a pretty big flying community," Kilpatrick said.
He said there will also be ultralights, at least one gyrocopter and some skydiving. Nearly 100 people atttended an impromptu fly-in in October at the field.
For information and directions, people can call Kilpatrick at 922-5564.
Pickle clue
A jar of Mt. Olive Pickles has been hidden in Mount Olive. For the next three weeks, clues will be printed that will lead someone to the location of the pickles. The pickles will be labeled, "You are a winner in the N.C. Pickle Festival Treasure Hunt."
The contest leads up to the annual Mount Olive Pickle Festival on the weekend of April 22-23.
The winner should bring the winning jar to the Mount Olive Area Chamber of Commerce. The winner will receive a pickle pack donated by the Mt. Olive Pickle Company.
Today's clue: "Want to rack up? Buy a ticket for the death-defying dill dive and win $500. I encourage you to hang around and dance to the music of the Band of Oz on Friday night. You will be dillighted that you did. Don't get boxed in with work, come and enjoy bands, dancers and singers on the N.C. Pickle Festival stages."
