Wayne County authorities issued more than 100 charges Friday night and early Saturday during a "Booze It and Lose It" campaign against impaired driving on Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, the U.S. 70 bypass, near Oak Forest Road.
Three motorists were charged with driving while impaired, 13 with driving while their license was revoked, 25 with not having an operator's license, three with seat-belt violation and 50 with other vehicle and criminal offenses. Ten people were charged with drug violations.
The Goldsboro police B and D patrol shifts, the Highway Patrol, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and Mount Olive police took part in the campaign between 11 p.m. Friday and 4 a.m. Saturday.
Robbery try
A pizza delivery man said a man tried to rob him Saturday night as he stopped in the 600 block of West Oak Street, according to a Goldsboro police report. The delivery man fled, and the suspect then fired several shots at his car, police said.
Joshua Tarkington, 23, of Goldsboro was delivering a pizza for the King Chef Chinese Restaurant of Goldsboro at about 8:45 p.m., when a black man asked him to change a $20 bill. Tarkington pulled out two $10 bills, and the suspect tried to grab the money, the report said.
Tarkington then jumped in his car, but the suspect pulled out a handgun and demanded that Tarkington give up the money, the report said. As Tarkington sped away, the suspect fired several shots, hitting the trunk and tail light. Damages were estimated at $350.
The gunman was described as 5-foot-3 and 125 pounds with a thin build and short black hair, and he wore a black shirt and camouflage pants.
Gun theft
A 30-year-old man was arrested Friday by Goldsboro police and charged with felony larceny in connection with the theft of two handguns from a home on North Daisy Street.
Chad Christopher Craft of Mark Edwards Road was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond. Police Investigator Neil Lynch arrested Craft with assistance from Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Rick Farfour.
Collisions
Damages were estimated at $29,700 in four recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Damages were estimated at $7,000 in a two-car collision at 5:15 p.m. Saturday at North Jefferson Avenue and Rose Street, Goldsboro police said. The report said a southbound driver, Glenn Romaine Shantz Strickland, 29, of South Johnson Street, Mount Olive, started to make a left turn and collided with a northbound auto. Strickland was charged with driving while impaired, a safe-movement violation, possession of a concealed weapon and failure to carry driver's license. The other motorist was identified as Aljean B. Daughtry, 82, of South Best Street.
*A car was demolished in a wreck at 11:56 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. 117 near O'Berry Road, the Highway Patrol said. The southbound driver, Victor Warren Blalock, 49, of Greenville was charged with exceeding a safe speed. The car hydroplaned on water, ran off the left side and struck a cable guard rail. Damages were set at $7,700.
*Damage was estimated at $10,000 at 1:35 a.m. Wednesday when a tractor-trailer ran off Old Grantham Road and overturned, the Highway Patrol said. The driver for Mike's Trucking Co. of Rowland -- Robert Draughon Martin Jr., 47, of Lumberton -- was not charged or injured.
*Damages were put at $5,000 in a two-vehicle crash at 7:10 a.m. March 20 in dense fog at U.S. 70 and Oak Forest Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Debbie R. Norwood, 45, of N.C. 111 South, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. The other motorist was listed as Yousef Husein Siam, 19, of Raleigh.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*Twenty music DVDs, a DVD player, video-game equipment, a belt and $75 were stolen between Friday and Sunday from a home in the 1000 block of North James Street, police said. The thief had damaged a door to get inside. The resident, Linda Miller, estimated the value of the stolen property at more than $305 and damage at $30.
*A purse with personal papers and $15 was stolen Sunday after a vehicle window was smashed at a restaurant parking lot at 2517 North Park Drive, police said. Tera Futrell of Pink Hill said her property was worth $45. Damage was set at $30 to the vehicle, owned by Cynthia Davis of Pink Hill.
*About $1,030 was stolen between Saturday and Sunday from an apartment in the 300 block of Courtyard Circle, police said. No forced entry was reported at the home of Arletha Bates and Kaniyla Lofton.
Stove fire
Unattended cooking was blamed Friday for a fire that caused minor damage to a home in the 100 block of South Running Deer Circle, fire officials said.
Arrington and Dudley volunteer firefighters responded. The occupant's identity and amount of damage were not immediately known.
