Nominations are being accepted for the 2005 North Carolina Awards for Outstanding Volunteer Service.
Each county in the state is allowed to nominate five individuals, businesses or groups to be recognized for their outstanding contributions to their communities.
In Wayne, the county Association of Volunteer Administrators will evaluate the nominations and forward them to the state.
Five winners will be honored in in November at a reception with representatives from the North Carolina Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service with the governor's office.
Nominations may be picked up at the Volunteer Wayne/RSVP office at Wayne Community College. They are due no later than 4 p.m. April 29. For more information, people may contact Barbara Stiles at 735-5151, ext. 702.
This year marks the 27th year of the volunteer awards program that showcases North Carolina's most dedicated residents. Last year, 347 awards were given to people across the state.
