Renee Carey named editor of News-Argus

Renee Carey, formerly the editor of the Griffin Daily News in Georgia, has been named editor of the Goldsboro News-Argus, adding a new voice to the newspaper's editorial page.
Mrs. Carey was editor of the Griffin paper for four years.

Previously she had been managing editor of the Ironton, Ohio, Tribune for eight years. She joined the Tribune as a reporter after earning degrees in journalism and English at Ohio University, and she was promoted to managing editor after three years. She went to Griffin in 2000.
Mrs. Carey will be the first woman to hold the position of editor of the News-Argus.
She will succeed Michael Rouse when he retires at the end of March. Rouse will continue to contribute editorials to the paper, as does Editor Emeritus Eugene Price.
Mrs. Carey, in addition to writing editorials and guiding editorial policy, will be responsible for the newspaper's news, sports and photography departments. She was the chief editorial writer at both the Griffin Daily News and the Irontown Tribune.
She is a Kiwanis Club member and has been active in the Humane Society both as a fund-raiser and an animal rescuer.
She is married to Jan Carey, a special-education teacher.
Mrs. Carey's appointment was announced by the publisher of the News-Argus, Hal Tanner Jr. He noted that her background is in small daily newspapers, most recently in the southern United States.
"While we will miss Mike Rouse after 11 years as our editor," Tanner said, "we are delighted to have found Renee Carey. She is a very competent and talented news person whose strong points are local news coverage and graphic design.
"We are pleased that the two of them will have some time to work together during a short transition period," Tanner said, noted that Mrs. Carey has already arrived in Goldsboro.
