Crystal Prince of Goldsboro, a senior at Southern Wayne High School, has been awarded a Barton College Presidential Scholarship. The renewable scholarship will cover $6,500 of tuition for the freshman year.
Miss Prince is the daughter of Butch and Denise Prince of Goldsboro. She will enter Barton College this fall and plans to major in nursing.
Jamie Mills, a junior at Rosewood High School, has been selected to attend LeadAmerica's 2005 Congressional Student Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. High school students who have a record of academic achievement and outstanding extracurricular or community involvement are invited to participate. They will choose from several academic areas, such as Government and Politics, Engineering, Science, National Security and Crime Scene Investigation, which will offer workshops and activities to help them learn and develop leadership skills.
Amy N. Brown and Brittany N. Fleming of Goldsboro, Aretha P. Williams and Andrew Rodgers of LaGrange, and Emily J. Nichols of Seven Springs are on the 2004 fall semester dean's list at Pitt Community College.
William B. Turner, son of Dr. and Mrs. William Turner of Goldsboro, is on the dean's list for the winter term at Furman University in Greenville, S.C. Furman's deans list is composed of full-time undergraduate students who earn a grade-point average of 3.4 or higher on a four-point system.
Leslie Lewis, a senior at Eastern Wayne High School and the daughter of Susan and Richard Lewis, has been awarded a Presidential Scholarship to attend North Central College in Naperville, Ill.
Lindsay Pate of Goldsboro was selected to participate in the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington D.C. from March 8 to March 13. The leadership development program is offered for high school students who have demonstrated leadership potential and scholarship merit.
Kathy L. Ondishko has been named to the fall semester dean's list at Marquette School of Health Sciences and Nursing in Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisc.
Christian Brookx Peele has been elected to membership in Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honor society at Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Va. Miss Peele was also selected to receive four scholarships -- the Mary E. Lakenan Scholarship, the Warren W. Hobbie Scholarship, Carpenter Scholarship and the James L. McAllister Jr. Preparation for Ministry Scholarship. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Peele of Goldsboro.
Wesley Dills of Dudley was named to the Dean's List for the winter term at Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte, where he is pursuing an associate degree in culinary arts. To receive Dean's List commendation, students must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.40 or above. The school is a private, nonprofit, accredited institution offering undergraduate and graduate degree programs in business, food service, education, hospitality and technology. Johnson & Wales has more than 16,000 students enrolled at campuses in Providence, R.I., Charleston, S.C., Norfolk, Va., North Miami, Fla., and Denver, Colo. It opened its Charlotte campus in September 2004.
Mellissa Williams, who was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa honor society at Wayne Community College, was incorrectly listed as a resident of LaGrange in the student news section of the March 13 edition of the News-Argus. She lives in Pikeville.
