Goldsboro's De-Rail-A-Bration expands to two days this year with the booking of the Malpass Family for a night of country, bluegrass and gospel.
De-Rail-A-Bration will be held Friday evening, April 15, and Saturday, April 16, at Pedestrian Plaza, corner of Chestnut and Center streets, in front of the police-fire building.
The festival will open from 6-9 p.m. Friday with food vendors and amusement park rides. People should bring lawn chairs and blankets so they can sit back and enjoy the Malpass Family from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
The group consists of Chris and Andrea Malpass and their children Christopher and Taylor. Christopher plays acoustic guitar, Taylor the mandolin, and their father the upright bass, and all four sing with Christopher as the primary lead.
Christopher Malpass has appeared in many venues throughout North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia, including a stint in the "Christmas in Dixie" Opryland Production at the Alabama Theater in Myrtle Beach.
The group's latest CD, "All He's Asking," includes 12 gospel songs that were originally performed by artists such as Hank Williams Sr., Charles E. Moody, Don McHan and Terry Smith.
More information about the group can be found at www.malpassfamilymusic.com.
The festival continues Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Planned events are amusement park rides, including tug boats, a rollercoaster and trackless train; carnival games; food vendors; police and fire tours; a train display by the Waynesborough Model Train Club; petting zoo; space walk; and a music stage.
The Greater Goldsboro Road Run will include a 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer run, beginning at 8:30 a.m. There will also be a children's fun run at 9:30 a.m. and all participants will receive medallions.
