Teachers attend seminars

CULLOWHEE -- Several area educators have participated in seminars at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching.
Mary L. Hawk of Goldsboro, grades K-5 English as a second language teacher at Eastern Wayne Elementary School, attended a support seminar for teachers pursuing certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
Jennifer E. Cochran of Smithfield, an algebra teacher at Rosewood High School, attended a support seminar for teachers pursuing certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. She attended as a Golden LEAF scholar through an award to NCCAT from Golden LEAF Inc. of Rocky Mount.
Caroline R. Brown of Goldsboro, third-grade teacher at Tommy's Road Elementary School, recently attended a seminar, "NASCAR: Science on the Race Track," held in Randleman.
Pamela R. Johnson of Goldsboro, eighth-grade social studies teacher at Eastern Wayne Middle School, and Lee Person of Pikeville, seventh-grade social studies and language arts teacher at Norwayne Middle School, attended a seminar, "Gathering of Holocaust Educators." The seminar was supported with funding from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany of New York, N.Y.
NCCAT provides residential seminars in the art, sciences, humanities and technology for pre-kindergarten through twelfth-grade public school teachers. The seminars are offered on a year-round basis at no cost to participating teachers. They are designed to renew teachers' vitality for teaching and to equip them with new knowledge for the classroom.
