The Goldsboro Family YMCA will hold its 14th Annual Healthy Kids Day next month.
The event will be held April 2, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Family Y on Parkway Drive.
The event is held each year to help families embrace a more active lifestyle and it is open to the public.
The day-long event showcases the Family Y's programs, which are designed to "put play in your day," said the Family Y's wellness director, Hal Warner.
All the events are free.
The event is part of the national organization's "Activate America" initiative that develops and implements community-based solutions to help improve health and wellness.
More than 1,250 Family YMCAs will be participating across the country.
Display tables will be set up by various organizations, including the Wayne County 4-H and WATCH, the Wayne County Health Department and local law enforcement agencies.
The Family Y will provide three land inflatables, including the Amazon Jungle and two pool inflatables including the Gladiator Obstacle Course.
Youngster are encouraged to bring their swimsuits.
Also, there will be live music, clowns, balloons, professional wrestlers, face painting, a soccer shoot-out and magic tricks. Free food will be provided by Pizza Time, Food Lion and the Mt. Olive Pickle Co.
For the day, the Family Y will reduce its joining fee to $25.
Warner said the purpose of the event is to bring attention to the fact that so many children are in poor physical shape. Nine million children in the U.S. are reported to be overweight. That's more than double the figure reported in 1980.
