Longleaf Pine
Presentation of three memberships into the Order of the Longleaf Pine and an announcement regarding an unusual new organization will be features of a Law Enforcement Appreciation Banquet Saturday at the Wayne Agricultural Center.
The function will begin with a concert by the Charles B. Aycock Jazz Band at 6:30 p.m.
The affair is sponsored by members of a new organization, "Ninety-Nine Shepherds." The origin and purpose of the group will be explained at the banquet by Rick Pridgen -- one of the 99 members.
The Order of the Longleaf Pine, the highest honor bestowed by the governor, will be presented to retired game protector Admiral G. Howell, and posthumously to the late Judge Arnold O. Jones and Wake County Deputy Sheriff Mack Tucker.
