The Wayne County Farm Service Agency will start two major signups on March 14.
In order to provide the service needed to complete all the programs administrated by FSA, an appointment schedule has been developed. Farmers are asked to contact the Wayne County Farm Service Agency at 734-5281, ext. 2, to schedule an appointment.
Callers need to provide specific information about the programs and other activities they wish to complete while in the office. This will help the office staff plan the amount of time needed for the appointment, and gather important records before the appointment, said Rick Tharrington, the executive director of the agency.
The method being used is the same method used for taking crop reports since 1994. However, the Wayne County staff will be doing the work with four less people than in 1994, Tharrington said.
The "Tobacco Buyout," as it is commonly known, will now be referred to as the Tobacco Transition Payment Program (TTPP). The deadline for TTPP will be June 17, 2005. The deadline for the 2003 and 2004 Crop Disaster Program (CDP) will be May 13, 2005. Spring planted crops (small grain) will need to be reported by May 15, 2005. The Direct and Counter-Cyclical Program (DCP) signup ends June 1, 2005. All cropland and crops participating in the DCP and Federal Crop Insurance will need to be reported by June 30, 2005.
To obain more information about the programs or make an appointments, farmers are urged to call the Wayne County FSAOffice at 734-5281.
