Man charged
with murder
A 19-year-old man from Winston-Salem was arrested Monday night by Goldsboro police and charged with the fatal shooting of a man in a restaurant parking lot.
Shawn Naurice Holmes was charged with the murder of LaShonnie Maurice Howell on Feb. 19 in the parking lot of the Waffle House parking lot on Wayne Memorial Drive.
Holmes
Holmes, who has relatives in Goldsboro, was placed in the Wayne County Jail without bond. His first court appearance to determine his legal representation was to be held today.
Holmes surrendered at the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. Then he was arrested by police Investigator Seth Harris and State Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Barbara Lewis.
Holmes also was held on four outstanding arrest orders, including one from the Sheriff's Office on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon.
Pizza delivery
woman robbed
A young woman delivering a pizza was robbed Monday night by two men in the 1600 block of Hodges Avenue, according to a Goldsboro police report. Police later arrested a man and charged him with the robbery.
The woman, who was working for Always Pizza, told officers that one man invited her in, asked her if she had any money and then took about $50 and food.
As she left unharmed, one suspect said, "This had better not be in the paper."
Less than two hours later, police arrested Dwayne Joseph Clarke, 22, of Devereaux Street and charged him with felony common-law robbery. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond.
Victim identified
The man who was found murdered last week in a home in Tanglewood Trailer Park was identified Monday night as the resident, Larnell Thompson.
Goldsboro police said they received out-of-state fingerprints to identify the 51-year-old victim.
Police had arrested Thompson's live-in girlfriend, Teresa Bizzell, 37, shortly after the body was found. Bizzell was charged with murder and placed in the Wayne County Jail without bond.
Check charges
Goldsboro police cleared a case of check larceny and forgery with the arrest Monday of a Dudley man.
Everett Henry Brinson, 39, of Emmaus Church Road was accused of stealing his stepbrother's checks, forging them and passing them at a convenience store on South Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, the U.S. 117 bypass.
Brinson was charged by Investigator Dwayne Dean with two felony counts of forgery and uttering. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond.
Assault charge
A Goldsboro man was arrested Monday by Goldsboro police in the 100 block of Courtyard Circle and charged with a felony assault.
Henry Calvin Jones, 24, of East Pine Street was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill while inflicting serious injury. He was accused of shooting Victor Ingram, 35, of Dudley on Feb. 19 at Seymour Drive and Rosewood Road. Ingram was treated for his injuries at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Jones also was held on a probation violation. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of secured bonds totaling $150,000.
Teen charged
A second teen-ager has been arrested by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with four felony offenses in connection with residential break-ins in the Marsh Landing subdivision.
Kendrick Jeremiah Goff, 17, of Peachtree Drive was charged with breaking and entering, larceny, possession of stolen goods and attempted breaking and entering. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $4,999 secured bond. Detective Sgt. Shawn Harris said some property has been recovered.
Deputies had arrested Henry N. Bermudez, 17, of Weathersby Lane and charged him with 10 felony offenses in similar break-ins.
Accidents
Five people were injured and damages were estimated at $45,200 in four recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, the Highway Patrol reported.
*A driver from Goldsboro was injured in a one-car wreck at 7:50 p.m. Sunday on Genoa Road near Old Mount Olive Road, the Highway Patrol said. Mauleena Sabrina King, 22, of Olivia Lane, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. No charges were filed after the car ran off the right side, struck a ditch and overturned. The car, valued at $6,000, was demolished.
*A driver from Wilson was injured in a one-truck crash at 2:30 a.m. Sunday on Old Black Creek Road near Moye Road, the Highway Patrol said. John Andrew Cox, 37, was listed today in stable condition at Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. He was charged with suspicion of driving while impaired and exceeding a safe speed after the pickup that he was driving ran off the right side, struck a ditch and overturned. The pickup, valued at $3,000, was totaled.
*Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $14,000 in a two-vehicle collision at 7:35 a.m. Feb. 22 on Nahunta Road near Pikeville-Princeton Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, James Adderson Edwards, 19, of Lucama, and the other motorist, Kristopher Ryan Campbell, 17, of Lorbel Place, and his passenger, Brogden Hines, 16, of Hounds Run Drive, were released after emergency-room treatment. Edwards was charged with driving left of center after the vehicles sideswiped each other.
*Damages were estimated at $22,200 in a two-vehicle crash at 8:35 a.m. Feb. 14 at Nahunta and Hinnant roads, the Highway Patrol said. A westbound motorist, Carlos Torcero, 31, of Washington, N.C., was charged with a stop-sign violation after his pickup truck collided with a southbound sport utility vehicle. The other driver was identified as Kelly Brooke Jones, 25, of Sunflower Drive.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A 10-shot handgun and a semi-automatic rifle were stolen between Feb. 3 and Monday from a car trunk in the 6000 block of Highland Avenue, sheriff's deputies said. The thief had pried open the trunk to get inside. The resident, Tony Donnell Brawley, put a $985 value on the weapons.
*A 1981 20.5 horsepower Evinrude boat motor was stolen between Sunday and Monday from U.S. 70 East and Lake Wackena Road, deputies said. The thief had cut a chain to get the motor from the boat. The owner, George Douglas Thigpen of Mill Road, said the motor was worth $900.
*A full-blooded male boxer dog was stolen Feb. 21 from a fenced-in yard in the 100 block of Rowe Street, deputies said. The owner and resident, Thomas Williams, said the 3-year-old dog, valued at $400, was fawn colored with a black face and weighed about 100 pounds. Anyone with information was asked to call Williams at 580-9301, 922-5237 or 242-8266.
Thefts
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*Two saws were stolen between Sunday and Monday after a garage door was damaged in the 1500 block of East Elm Street, police said. The resident, Walter Fennell, estimated the value of the saws at $80 and damage at $100.
*A cell phone and a battery charger were stolen between Feb. 9 and Monday after a window was broken at a home in the 200 block of Wayne Avenue, police said. The resident, Moses Barnes, put a $260 value on the missing property.
Drug charges
A 44-year-old man was arrested Monday by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug and charged with two felony drug offenses.
Donnie Earl Strickland of Country Run Lane was charged with possession of methamphetamine and conspiracy to distribute the drug. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $57,500 secured bond.
Missing
Two men were reported missing Monday to Wayne County authorities.
*James Wymon Ethridge, 46, of 807 Pou St. was described as white, 5-feet-8 and 140 pounds with brown eyes and brown hair. A relative said he has not been seen since Dec. 13. Ethridge may be driving a Suzuki motorcycle.
*James Edward Smith, 38, of 2839 Zion Church Road, Seven Springs, was described as white, 5-foot-7 and 140 pounds with brown eyes and brown hair in a ponytail. When Smith was seen last on Friday, he was wearing a fleece jacket, blue jeans and gray or blue sneakers.
