Two die in Sunday crash

WALLACE -- Charges are pending in the investigation of a collision Sunday morning that took the lives of two children.
Austin Tyler Partida, 3, and Heather Brown, 5, of the same address in Willard, N.C., died in the wreck, which happenedat 10:20 a.m. on Deep Bottom road, about eight miles east of Wallace.
The younger child was riding in a child restraint seat, and the older was wearing a seat belt.
Others involved in the crash were treated and released at Duplin Memorial Hospital.
Driver Amanda Gail Partida, 25, of Willard, N.C. was driving the 1998 Chevrolet in which the children were passengers. Another passenger in the car, Ashley Brown, 10, of the same address in Willard, survived the crash.
Trooper J.M. Quinn of the state Highway Patrol said it appeared that both Ms. Partida and the other driver were going about 55 miles per hour. Ms. Partida was going south, and the other driver, Gregory Maurice Faison of Wallace, was going north. He was driving a 1997 Ford.
Damage to the Chevrolet was about $4,000. Damage to the Ford was about $5,000.
