vandalized
Homes near Pikeville and Mount Olive were vandalized in what the victims claim were domestic disputes, according to reports filed with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
Joseph Warren Page returned to his home in the 100 block of Grand Street near Pikeville on Thursday and found more than $10,890 in estimated damages. Furniture was slashed and tipped over, a big-screen television was overturned and bleach was poured on his wife's clothing. About 50 compact discs and clothing, with a combined value of $350, also were stolen.
Theresa Ann Russell returned Thursday to her home in the 800 block of Indian Springs Road near Mount Olive and found that it had been vandalized. The walls, floors, a couch and two big-screen televisions sustained about $5,450 in damages. Authorities charged Jessie Barksdale, 57, with injury to real property, injury to personal property, domestic criminal trespass and a domestic violence order violation. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail without bond.
Robbery arrest
An 18-year-old man from Dudley was arrested Thursday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with last week's armed robbery of a Hispanic store.
Travis Devone Graham of Everittsville Road, Dudley, was accused of robbing the owner of the Tienda Mexicana Meli store at 309 Potts Road, Dudley, on Saturday and taking $50, Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Thomas Flores said.
Two men entered the store at about noon; one went to the bathroom and the other displayed a handgun, the report said. The first suspect left the bathroom and grabbed the cash while the gunman threatened the owner and his mother, the report said.
Graham was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $22,000 secured bond.
Kidnapping
A 32-year-old man who had been reported missing by relatives says he was kidnapped Jan. 7 at gunpoint by three men to whom he owed money for drugs, according to reports.
Roland Jakal Parker of Manley Grove Church Road, Mount Olive, told Wayne County sheriff's deputies on Thursday that he was abducted at about 8:30 p.m. from the Down East Travel Center at 2600 U.S. 117 South.
Parker also said the kidnappers stole his blue and silver, four-door 2003 Ford truck that was valued at $32,000.
Parker said he was driven to a home in Calypso by the suspects who claimed that he owed them $500. Parker said he was held until Wednesday when he escaped.
Groceries stolen
A man was robbed Thursday night of $30 worth of groceries as he walked near East Walnut and Leslie streets, according to a Goldsboro police report.
Richard Pierce, 57, of East Walnut Street told officers that a black man asked him for a cigarette at about 8 p.m. As Pierce was getting one, the suspect grabbed the groceries and the cigarette, pushed Pierce to the ground and fled, the report said.
The suspect was described as 5-feet-8 and 150 pounds with a slim build and black hair. He wore a red hat, a white shirt and tan pants.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A radio, an amplifier and speakers were stolen Thursday from a car in the 900 block of Fairview Circle, police said. The thief had broken a window to get inside. The property, owned by Robert Woodrow Pugh of Goldsboro, was valued at $475. Damage was set at $100 to the car, owned by the resident, Carolyn Hatch.
*Video-game equipment was stolen Thursday after a window was broken at an apartment in the 900 block of Evergreen Avenue. The resident, Shirley Peebles, put a $400 value on the stolen property and set damage at $25.
*A combination radio and cassette player and a compact disc player were stolen Thursday after a car window was smashed in the 1700 block of East Holly Street. The owner and resident, Maxine Wooten, estimated the stolen property's value at $498 and damage at $125.
*A black, four-door 1995 Honda Accord was stolen between Wednesday and Thursday from the 1200 block of Ben Brewington Court, police said. The owner, Wynton D. McQueen, said the car was worth $12,000.
Forgery
A Goldsboro man faces four more charges after being arrested Thursday by Goldsboro police.
Joseph Harold Battle, 35, of Wayne Avenue was charged with two felony counts each of forgery and uttering. His secured bond was set at $5,000.
Battle was accused of passing forged and stolen checks at Goldsboro businesses, Investigator Mike Moore said. He already was jailed on other charges.
Drug charge
A 21-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Thursday by the the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with a felony drug offense.
Cory Devon Smith of Hugh Street was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond.
