Walker wins award
Former Goldsboro resident Sally Walker has won the Heini Hediger award for outstanding and dedicated service to the zoo and aquarium profession.
Ms. Walker is founder and director of the Zoo Outreach Organization -- ZOO -- and president of the Wildlife Information Liaison Development -- WILD, both based in Coimbatore, India.
The award was presented in Taipei, Taiwan, by the president of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
Ms. Walker has worked with ZOO since 1981 and with WILD since 1999.
She is the daughter of Norman and Doy Raulston of Goldsboro.
Bridge contract awarded
RALEIGH -- The N.C. Board of Transportation has awarded a contract to replace the bridge over the Neuse River overflow and its approaches on N.C. 111 in Wayne County.
The $1.3 million contract was awarded to Dellinger Inc of Monroe.
Work can begin in late January 2005 and is scheduled for completion by December 2006.
