Rotarian goes to India

Dr. Bryson Bateman of Walnut Creek has embarked on a trip to India as an ambassador for Rotary clubs in northeastern North Carolina.
Bateman is a member of the Three Eagles Rotary Club of Goldsboro and will serve as the leader for the four other team members.
The Group Study Exchange Team left on Sunday to represent Rotary International District 7720 on a month-long visit to Rotary District 3250 in east central India.
Bateman, age 54, is a retired emergency medicine physician. He is a Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary and is earning his master's degree in American history at East Carolina University.
The team will serve as goodwill ambassadors in the Rotary mission of building understanding and peace around the world. They will live with families of Rotarians, present programs to Rotary clubs, learn about the culture and country, learn how their own vocation is practiced in India and participate in Rotary community service projects.
The team will arrive in Ranchi, state of Jharkhand, and travel first to Jamshedpur for the Rotary District Conference. District 3250 was not directly hit by a tsunami.
But the team brings sympathy and will learn of ways the local Rotary district might assist. Before returning home, the team will see the Taj Mahal.
Because this is the 100th anniversary of Rotary, the group has the special designation of "Centennial GSE Team."
The Rotary District 7720 of northeastern North Carolina will be the host of a Rotary Group Study Exchange Team from District 3250 India in April.
