The three Winn-Dixie stores in Wayne County are not included in the group of 156 stores that the company plans to sell or close by the end of April, according to Kathy Lussier, a company spokes-man.
As of Oct. 19, 47 had been closed and 34 had been sold or sub-leased or are under contract for sale or sub-lease, she said.
The Kinston store is to be sold or closed by the end of April.
The decision to close or sell was based on factors that included market share, profitability and potential for growth, Ms. Lussier said.
The stores that are being sold or closed are in Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee. Distribution centers in Sarasota, Fla., and Raleigh have been closed, and the company will close the Louisville, Ky., distribution center.
After the closings and sales, the Jacksonville-based supermarket chain will have around 900 stores and several new stores have been opened this year, she said.
The Goldsboro stores are at 211 N. Berkeley Blvd., 2441 U.S. 117 S. at Mar Mac, and 1805 Wayne Memorial Drive.
