Missing
Goldsboro police are looking for Takel M. Miller, 12, of North Lime Street. The Goldsboro Middle School student's grandmother, Linda Leggett, said the police were called to the house after a "physical altercation," and when the police arrived, Miller ran from the home to Church Street and towards Carolina Pines. She said she hasn't seen him since Christmas Eve. Monday, she said, he made a prank call to the home.
Crimes
The Goldsboro Police Department is investigating the following crimes:
*Someone went in through a closed but unlocked back window to Bryon E. Russell's apartment on Benton Street and took a Playstation 2 and six games, coins and a watch, all valued at $1,775. He said it occurred some time between 3 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. The report said they left through the back door.
*Someone broke into Kalvin Dewayne Dudley's 1997 Dodge Avenger and took the speakers and a CD player, all valued at $1,325. Dudley, who lives on Juniper Street, said he took the car to Jennings Transmission at 415 E. New Hope Road on Dec. 21 to be worked on, and when he went to pick it up Tuesday, the items were missing.
*Antwain M. Grantham of Ruby Drive said a bouncer at Dunleavy's at 2714 Ash St. struck him in the face with a flash light on Christmas Day and broke his jaw bone and his chin.
*Someone entered the unsecured side window to Richard Dukelow's home on East Elm Street and took a $250 rifle from his closet. He found it missing Sunday. The last time he saw it was on the afternoon of Dec. 21. He described the rifle as a black 9mm Highpoint with a scope.
*Police say somebody removed Wakitha Saunders' purse from her desk at the Social Services office at 301 N. Herman St. The purse and its contents included a wedding band set and the keys to her home on Woodrose Avenue and car and were valued at a total of $515.
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is investigating the following crimes:
*Harvey Leland Jordan Jr. of Community Drive told investigators he "won" an online auction and sent a personal check for $503 to buy a pistol. The check was cashed. The gun did not arrive. Jordan said he placed the winning bid on Nov. 14 for an AK pistol on website Auction Arms at www.auctionarms.com and made the check payable to a David Bacon and sent it to Eagle Creek, Oregon. The check was processed on Nov. 29.
Investigators faxed their report to the Clackama County Sheriff's Office in Oregon. Investigators said it's a felony in North Carolina to obtain property by false pretense, "but unfortunately, this crime was completed in Oregon and therefore out of our jurisdiction."
*Someone stole Nicholas Gwatney's 2005 Mazda from his front yard on Daw Pate Road and wrecked it doing about $10,000 damage. Deputies recovered it. Investigators said the wreck was alcohol-related. They found empty containers.
Collisions
*Goldsboro police didn't charge any of the five drivers that crashed into each other's cars in the ice just before midnight Tuesday on West Ash Street. Nobody was hurt, but the damage ran high for drivers Gloria Payne of West Lockhaven, whose 2000 Toyota sustained $3,000 damage; Brenda Lofton of Brogden Street in Dudley, whose 2002 Nissan sustained $4,000 damage; Helen Cox of Kornegay Drive in Dudley, whose 2001 Nissan sustained $2,000 damage; James Taylor of Cardinal Drive, whose 1999 Mercury sustained $4,000 damage; and Angela Ward of Stanley Chapel Church Road, whose 2000 Infinity sustained $4,000 damage.
"The roadway was completely covered in ice and was the main contributing factor," said the report. The Nissan driven by Ms. Lofton hit the Toyota causing a chain reaction.
*The state Highway Patrol charged Helen Whitley of O'Berry Center Road with failure to reduce speed after a three-car collision Monday afternoon on U.S. 70. She was treated and released at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Nobody else was treated.
The report said all three vehicles were going east on U.S. 70 when the 1991 Chrysler driven by Ms. Whitley struck the rear of a 1999 Ford driven by Adam Keener of Country Road, LaGrange. He had slowed to make a right turn into a driveway. A 1992 Nissan driven by Angela Combs of Nahunta Road, Pikeville then hit Ms. Whitley's Chrysler.
Damage was $3,500 to the Chrysler, $1,500 to the ford and $2,500 to the Nissan.
*A state trooper charged Larry Cook of Havelock with exceeding a safe speed Sunday morning after he overturned his car on U.S. 13. Neither he nor any of his three passengers were treated for any injuries. The report said the 1990 Plymouth he was driving was going north on U.S. 13, and he lost control on the ice. The car ran off on the left side, struck a ditch and rolled over, coming to rest on its side. Damage was $4,000.
