Two Goldsboro Fire Department employees have been promoted, Chief Bobby Greenfield has announced.
Harold Isler Jr. was promoted from fire engineer to lieutenant, and Julian Whitley was promoted from firefighter to fire engineer.
Isler joined the department on Jan. 22, 1997, as a firefighter and was promoted to fire engineer.
As a lieutenant, Isler will supervise the fire engineer and firefighters on his shift. He also will direct and participate in firefighting, conduct training and prepare fire reports. He also may serve as an acting assistant chief.
Isler also must maintain the minimum qualifications and training standards as established by the department, Greenfield said.
Isler and his wife, Tesha, are the parents of a daughter.
Whitney joined the department Dec. 1, 1999, as a firefighter.
As a fire engineer, Whitney must drive a fire truck to its destination by means of the quickest route and also must pump the require amount of water using the truck's gauges and instruments.
A fire engineer also must have the skills to operate and maintain firefighting equipment safely and effectively. He must know firefighting techniques, street systems, hydrant locations, major buildings and the city's physical layout. He also may serve as an acting lieutenant.
Whitney and his wife, Krystal, have two daughters.
